WiiNintendo released a press announcement today (which we reported earlier) dealing with upcoming games, and possibly the release of the Wii. I say possibly because Nintendo suggests that this news item is not about the Wii, but it may contain a secret, encrypted message detailing the launch of the Wii. The folks over at Gaming Target say they have cracked the code, stating the the Wii will be released on October 2nd.

You are probably wondering how they cracked it, so here's their reasoning - There was no direct mention of anything Wii related, but Nintendo did include this cryptic line in their announcement: "Perhaps the secret to the launch information for Wii is somehow encoded in the text of this news item." And I believe they are being serious.

The fourth quarter begins on October 1. Now look at the list. At least one game is released every Monday in the fourth quarter except for the following dates: October 2, November 20 and November 27.

November 27 is after Black Friday, so it's out. November 20 is after the launch of the PS3, so that's out too. That leaves us with October 2.

So, should we trust those over at Gaming Target with the release of the Wii, or should we wait until Nintendo says that it will be October 2nd in which the Wii will be released? This only comes a week after the TGS, so hopefully Nintendo will make a suprise visit at the famous games show again! Even more stunning and supporting of this speculation is that - I covered another speculated release date from Walmart stating that a Wii game was scheduled to be released on October 2nd of this year!

Nintendo Game Offerings Heat Up As The Weather Cools Down

July 25, 2006 - The fourth quarter of 2006 will herald a new era for Nintendo with the launch of its remarkable new Wii™ home video game system. But that's not what this news item is about! How could that be, you ask? Perhaps the secret to the launch information for Wii is somehow encoded in the text of this news item. You might want to pore over it for a few hours before staying up all night to debate phraseology and comma placement with your friends online. Or maybe it's all just a scam to get you to read the other games we have launching this fall. One of the two.

As the weather cools down, the Nintendo portable game offerings heat up. FINAL FANTASY® V ADVANCE makes its way to Game Boy® Advance SP on Nov. 6. As series go, FINAL FANTASY is to video games what James Bond is to movies. FINAL FANTASY loyalists will enjoy an opportunity to debate which installment was best.

Nintendo DS™ owners are the big winners. Every week or so, another huge DS title hits, from the Touch Generations title Clubhouse Games™ to fan favorites like Elite Beat Agents™ and Yoshi's Island™ 2. Clearly a gamer's idea of paradise, here is Nintendo's upcoming DS lineup:

Oct. 9: Clubhouse Games™
Oct. 16: Nintendogs™ (Dalmatian)
Oct. 23: Magical Starsign™
Oct. 30: Pokémon® Ranger
Oct. 30: Children of Mana®
Nov. 6: Elite Beat Agents™
Nov. 13: Yoshi's Island™ 2
Dec. 4: Custom Robo™ Arena
Dec. 4: Kirby™ Squeak Squad

And, for Nintendo GameCube™ owners, The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess will be available for you this fall. An enhanced version also will be a launch title for Wii. That will all happen on … Oh look, we're out of space.

"this only comes a week after the TGS, so hopefully Nintendo will make a suprise visit at the famous games show again!" Nintendo has already stated all other details will be revealed in September so if it waits until TGS it will certainly be last minute!

flawed logic, apparently the wii cant be released at the same time as a game and must be on a monday... nicely down on the decryption

In the USA games are almost always shipped on a Monday. And why would Nintendo want to release GBA, DS and GC games on the same release date as the Wii and all the Wii release games?

I like the logic behind the article. I think that it is right and I'm now expecting the Wii on October second. =)

Everyone... count on this to be true. If I had money to put on it I would put everything on this date. It will happen, I can feel it.

It's november 20 for sure. Wiiiii will Wiiiii will rock you!

 » That's a good guess

That date actually makes some sense. It's true that they wouldn't want to nerf their other platforms by putting out games for them on the same day, they want to get it out before PS3 and we know when the Q4 starts.

I just wonder when the launch in Europe will be.

The logic makes a lot of sense. :-( The news article said it ran out of space, but they had space to type "they ran out of space". What's up with that??? What also makes a lot of sense is this website www.wiireleasedate.com which counts the release date to the second. According to this web page, the Wii will come out the day after Halloween, Nov. 1, 2006. I'm getting this even if I have to rob a bank.

 » yeh possible

i also think this may be possible

INF, you were wondering when the Europe release would be, well nintendo has stated (can't find the source right now) that america, europe, japan and australia would be getting it at the same time (world-wide release)..

Earl, they said "we ran out of space" as a joke, i'm not sure if you got that, but they weren't going to give away the release date of the Twilight Princess, because that would give away the launch date..... and also.. i'm pretty sure sites such as wiireleasedate run on speculation.. and just assume on the date of release

 » Cool

Tabsina, thanks for the info. I got the same impression from somewhere but wasn't sure:) Apparently they don't have many choices, since they must have a lot of time to sell the systems in each country before PS3. Delaying the release in some region would be very risky compared to the benefits.

I hope they manage to produce enough systems so it won't be sold-out in two days.

 » fun with wii

the wii will sell great by mistake! most children between the age 10-17 will be asking mom for ps3 or 360 for christmas.Mom doesnt care for graghics or features, moms gunna see the price of those and end up buying a last gen system or the wii. kid will be mad but learn to love the system, although when he saves his money he will trade the wii for ps3 because all of his old games are for ps2. I will get a wii but it will sit and collect dust. It hurts my hands after dying alot of times playing a game. That just my hands, now with the wii I wont be able to drive the next day because my whole arm will hurt. will be fun

 » MY OPINION

I saw this PIC:

http://wii.nintendo.com/images/fea_gamepg_wwsm.png

theres a japanese chick that stands out, and has got a T-shirt that says US 101.

maybe this is the US Release date, in a hidden message?

101 = 10 1 = October 1st

hmm..?? thats just my opinion.

 » Possibly...

That could be true, but October 2nd seems too early. There's something I noticed that probably doesn't mean anything but is interesting. Notice the dates for the games on the list:

Oct. 9: Clubhouse Games™
Oct. 16: Nintendogs™ (Dalmatian)
Oct. 23: Magical Starsign™
Oct. 30: Pokémon® Ranger
Oct. 30: Children of Mana®
Nov. 6: Elite Beat Agents™
Nov. 13: Yoshi's Island™ 2
Dec. 4: Custom Robo™ Arena
Dec. 4: Kirby™ Squeak Squad

Except for the Dec. 4th ones, look at the sequence. Oct.9, Oct.16, Oct.23, Oct.30, Nov.6, Nov.13
They're all 7 days apart. This could point to October 7th or November 7th. Just an idea.
