Victorious Boxers: Revolution - Image 1Fight fans, you better get ready for a few rounds in the squared circle. XSEED Games has just announced an official release date for their Wii boxing title, Victorious Boxers: Revolution. Get your pens and mark your calendars. Victorious Boxers: Revolution will be hitting North America in a couple of weeks - October 16 to be exact.

Known in Japan as Hajime no Ippo: Revolution, Victorious Boxers: Revolution is a boxing game based on the long-running Japanese manga and anime series Hajime no Ippo. Just like the other games in the Ippo franchise, Victorious Boxers: Revolution will have a sizable stable of characters for players to choose from.

Those familiar with Wii Sports' boxing game will find the first of the three control schemes in Victorious Boxers: Revolution easy to grasp. The second control scheme involves using the Wiimote to draw patterns in the air. The third and last method goes old school: players use either a Wii Classic Controller or a GameCube controller to control the characters on-screen.

Victorious Boxers: Revolution
will be available for a suggested retail price of US$ 39.99.

While success stories in anime have always been a dime a dozen, there has always been something special with Ippo's. From a nobody, he grew up to become a feared competitor in the squared circle, with hard work and determination the two key elements of his survival in the world of modern-day boxing.

Now, XSEED Games lets us Wii owners experience every step of the way of Ippo's journey in Victorious Boxers: Revolution, and this trailer video of the game sees us off right.

One thing's for sure we can see in this trailer - this is not Wii Boxing. The visuals are striking, with the sharp cel-shading giving the whole game an anime-in-3D effect. The animations look brutal, the impact shots painful, and every major hit is focused on with a slow-motion scene that literally bleeds epic.

With awesome motion-sensing controls, a highly-emotional storyline, and an underdog male lead who will fight with everything he's worth whoever his opponent, Victorious Boxers: Revolution looks set to be a knockout. Enjoy the video!

Victorious Boxers: Revolution website - Image 1

Time to lace up those gloves and get back into fighting form as the latest boxing title for the Nintendo Wii, XSEED Games' Victorious Boxers: Revolution, recently opened up shop on the interwebs with its official website. If you thought you could hack it with your over 1000 Professional rating in Wii Sports Boxing, then you have your work cut out for you in the game that follows young Ippo's journey in the boxing world.

Like other official videogame websites, Victorious Boxers: Revolution's web presence provides the player with a lot of information on the get-go, with character profiles, game features, a story synopsis, and a handful of trailers to watch.

But what's definitely a must-see is the Controls section of the website, where you not only get to see just how you'll be able to perform the basic punches and moves, but also the devastating signature punches of each fighter - with videos!

Victorious Boxers: Revolution is definitely looking to be the definitive boxing title for the Wii. Updates as we get them, and you can check out the website by clicking on the Read link below.

The last time we heard about Hajime No Ippo: The Fighting Revolution, we discovered that it'll be punching its way to North American shores by the end of September. Now, we get a sneak peek of the game's translated version, Victorious Boxers: Revolution, through this video interview - and so far things are looking pretty good indeed for our stalwart Ippo and the mucsclebound opponents he'll be facing off with in the squared circle.

In this video interview, we get the backgrounder of the game's storyline from Jimmy Soga, Assistant Marketing Manager of XSEED Games, as well as a few handy tips on just how we'll have to move in order for the Wii to properly detect our punches, hooks and uppercuts.

If you've worked out with Wii Sports' boxing section, you'll be glad to know that it's pretty much the same, although when it comes to uppercuts and hooks, you'll have to do some elbow work besides the usual punching and jabbing.

What's remarkable about this game, however, is how the dubbed English voices sound like - and so far, they carry over the intensity of the commentators in the original anime. No flat, wooden performances here - the emotion is there, the urgency is there, and with the game's visuals staying faithful to the original material, it's an immersive experience.

No more spoilers from us, enjoy the video!

  • Point and Click - In this mode, players point and click with the Wiimote on where they want to attack.
  • Player Action - Similar to Wii Boxing, players will use the Wiimote to execute punches, weaving, and footwork in this mode.
  • Classic Controller mode - This mode is for players who want to stick to good old button pressing and mashing when facing off against their opponents.
