In the mood for some zombie goodness? If you are, then we have some good news for you. Today we have the lowdown on Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii. First of all, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles consists of four "chapters" with each chapter showcasing the areas found in previous incarnations of the game: RE1's mansion, RE2's RPD, RE3's city areas, and RE4's village and surrounding areas. For each chapter, you have 2 characters to choose from. RE1 has Jill and Chris, RE2 has Leon and Claire, RE3 has Jill and Carlos, and RE4 has Leon and Ada. Additional characters like Rebecca Chambers, Hunk, and Albert Wesker can also be unlocked as you play through the game. Also, each character will have their own strengths and weaknesses. The gameplay is designed around RE4's. Pressing on the Wiimote's B trigger will change the perspective to the over-the-shoulder view. Aiming is done with the pointer and the A button is for firing. The game will have QTEs, but rather than push buttons you have to make motions with the Wiimote in order to get through them. All characters will have melee attacks and each of them will have a unique weapon set. Each character can only carry 2 weapons at any time. The chapters are littered with weapons, and any new ones you find will be made available for use in arcade mode after you clear the chapter you found them in. Arcade mode is like a giant Mercenaries mini-game. There's no story or puzzles to get in the way, and all you have to do is choose a character and proceed to make things go "Boom!". Scenario mode, on the other hand, will feature a lot of cutscenes, and new content not found in the previous games that the chapters are based on will be added. A trailer for Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles is set to be shown at the Tokyo Game Show, so look forward to that. |

After having made appearances on the Xbox 360 in the form of Dynasty Warriors 5, on the PSP as Dynasty Warriors Vol. 2 as well as a Dynasty Warriors Mahjong game, and on the Nintendo DS as Dynasty Warriors DS, our legendary fighters have now set their sights on no less than the Nintendo Wii. Game developer Koei has just announced at the recent Japanese Wii Conference that Dynasty Warriors will be making an appearance on the Wii at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. Set in ancient China and featuring striking characters with their own sets of devastating signature moves, Dynasty Warriors has been a popular title since its days on the PS2. It's also one of the first hack-and-slash games that pitted your single fighter against hordes upon hordes of enemies. Now that the game will be on the Wii, one can't help but wonder how exactly the gameplay would be. |

That's right, folks! It's that time of the year again when gaming is in the air, and in a place that is no less than the heart of the Land of the Rising Sun: it's the month of the Tokyo Game Show!Just recently, the organizers of this massive game expo have released the list of games and companies that will be gracing the much-awaited event. As of press time, the list of titles tallies up to 127 PC Games, 125 mobile phone games, 100 PS2 titles, 52 for the NDS, 33 for the PSP, 20 for the Xbox 360, 18 for the PS3, 5 for the Wii, 2 for the GBA, 1 for the Xbox, 1 for the GameCube, and 88 more titles for various platforms. Games that fall under the action genre are also running high this year with 129 titles, while RPGs come second with 76. All in all, up to 573 games or more will be featured in the event, so to those who will be lucky enough to make it to Tokyo, let us know how many of these you managed to try! In any case, for those who want a more detailed list (and for those who can read Japanese), we've included the .pdf files containing the exhibition schedule and booth contents. The Tokyo Game Show is a yearly major gaming event that is attended by thousands of gamers and news reporters, and is organized by Japan's Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA). It is renowned for showcasing the latest in game technology and the latest game titles, as well as for its cosplaying booth babes. There is much excitement for this year's TGS as Nintendo Wii and Sony Playstation 3 are expected to come out in full force prior to their release later this year. The show is expected to gather around 160,000 guests and the event will be held at Makuhari Messe (Mihama-ku and Chiba City). Download: [TGS 2006 list] |

At the moment, there's a rumor going around that upon the release of the Nintendo Wii, the console will be coming with a system updater disc, which is no less than the Wii Start-Up Disc. There is no further details about the speculated firmware, but rumor has it that it is required for the first batch of Wiis that are expected to go on sale. A second rumor is that Nintendo will put up Wii online beta testing that will shake out any nasty bugs in the Wii's Virtual Console, WiiConnect24 as well as its other online elements. It is also said that it is to be expected between September 18 and October 23. As its rival, the Playstation 3, will not be available in PAL territories upon release, could this be Nintendo's way of stealing the limelight from Sony? In an effort to pre-empt the PS3, will they ship their first batches of consoles in such a state that it needs a driver? At the moment, one has to note that these are all rumors, but with the Tokyo Game Show rapidly approaching, perhaps we'll have some concrete answers by then. |

Reports have just confirmed that the voice actress who will flesh out the character of Jill Valentine in Resident Evil Wii, will be no other than Tara Platt. She is experienced in the field of dubbing since she has already done the voices for various characters in popular anime shows and other video games such as Marmalade Boy, Boys be..., Halo 2, and Naruto. She has also made various TV appearances in shows like The Gilmore Girls and Charmed.Platt, in an interview, has also confirmed that the game will have zombie- and plant-like creatures as well as a vast array of weapons. Because of her familiarity with the weapons available in the game, it can be surmised that her character will be playable. |

After the confirmation regarding the voice actress for Jill Valentine, here comes an unconfirmed rumor about how exactly Resident Evil Wii's gameplay will work. A member of Gamespot's community has managed to get hold of a copy of a Hong Kong magazine which had details of the game. He relates the following details:"...it's called Biohazard: Umbrella Corp Chronicles, and fills in the story on Umbrella before and leading to BH4. Gameplay is a mix between using the Wiimote as a light gun and BH4 style elements e.g. action buttons pressing X for a dramatic scene. It features scenarios from BH1 (museum), BH2 (police station), BH3 (raccoon city), BHCV and BH4 (village) and ties in the gaps especially BHCV and BH4. Characters include Chris/Claire, Leon / Ada, Jill / Carlos, Rebecca, Hunk and Wesker . There are two gameplay modes - scenario mode and arcade mode. Proper announcement to be made by Capcom at TGS" Though it's known that a certain Chinese magazine WAS due to print the information by September 1, it is yet to be confirmed if the details above are true, and perhaps the best thing to do at the moment would just be to wait for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show and see if an announcement would indeed be made. In the meantime, here's a scan of a Chinese magazine which has our subject on the cover, though we don't know if it's the same one in question since we can't read it. |
