You can read it, you can already breathe it - E3 anticipation is
quickly building up, teaser after teaser, bit by bit of every chunk of
info we get. We've got all sorts of pre-E3 news on the Nintendo side
this week. And as if they were holding their own homebrew-E3 this week,
Tantric and the other Wiibrewers have rolled out some pretty cool
updates and releases for their projects. The gist? We all win. The
details? Read on. |

Wii brew devs Scip, Rodries, etc. have created a fork of the Team
Twiizers' MPlayer port, adding in elements of the MPlayerWii and
GeeXboX to make their own touch. If you just came across this app,
MPlayer basically turns your Wii into a media player.Download: MPlayer CE v0.61 |

After months of anticipation, Team Twiizers has finally released the
first public beta of BootMii. This Wiibrew app provides added functionality, safety, and convenience for the
Nintendo Wii. Quite simply, it can install the Homebrew Channel and DVDX on any Wii, with any System Menu version without any hassle! |

Team Twiizers has looked through the Wii's new System Menu 4.0 (the one
that has the new SD Card Menu) and found out a few interesting things
about it. The best news for homebrewers is that both the Homebrew Channel and
DVDX are still working. The bad news is that the Twilight Hack no
longer works. |

After quite some time, Team Twiizers' DVDX app has been given an
update. DVDX allows you to run both home-burned and factory-pressed
DVDs without having to spring for a modchip. This release is aimed primarily at Wii owners who are running System
Menu 3.4.Download: DVDX 3.4 |

MenuPatcher v1.1 from Waninkoko patches the System Menu in memory to
run it under Custom IOS and allow backup loading through disc channel.
That's basically what this Wii brew app does. |

An ongoing drama is brewing in the Wiibrew scene, particularly between Team Twiizers and the makers of the Argon modchip. In a nutshell, Argon is locking "homebrew solutions" into their modchip without permission from the authors, in effect selling other people's works that are already free to begin with. In their latest effort to dodge copyright claims from Team Twiizers, Argon claims that Marcan didn't even write the Twilight Hack. More idiocy in the full article. |

Thanks to the efforts of the Wiibrew community, DVD playback is now possible on the Wii (albeit it has to be modded), which brings us back to the question, why wasn't it already possible in the first place? Well, it was. Nintendo just disabled it. |
