Streets of Rage 3 - Image 1 Streets of Rage 3 - Image 2

It's time yet again to relieve those white-knuckled memories of gaming nirvana in this week's Virtual Console update for those in the US side of the world. Slap on your rose-tinted glasses as we go into overdrive into an avalanche of blobs, coast through some streets with anger issues, all while wearing a tight-fitting spandex superhero costume. Party!

So, first up in Nintendo's weekly delivery of retro game titles is Kirby's Avalanche from the Super NES. There's no enemy-swallowing gameplay here, but darn if it isn't just as addictive. In the game, you'll help Kirby stack up blobs of the same color to win the Annual Dream Land Avalanche competition. Stack up enough blobs in the proper fashion, and they'll explode and come down upon your opponent's playing field - much like an avalanche. It's puzzle gaming, Kirby style, for 800 Wii Points.

Next is Streets of Rage 3 from the Sega Genesis. Take your pick from four tough fighters to try and wipe the Syndicate off the streets with your killer kicks, punches and throws. Only those with the hardest of cores need apply, as the Syndicate's hordes of robots won't go down without a fight. Featuring a ton of unlockable content and branching paths, Streets of Rage 3 is an offer you can't refuse for 800 Wii Points.

Last but not least is the previously-featured Legend of Hero Tonma from the TurboGrafx16. Step into the suit of justice as Tommy blasts away hordes of foes, all in an effort to save a mysterious princess. Using Tommy's magic, you'll have to fight your way through seven different stages - each one ending with an epic boss fight that would have even the most hardcore of platformer aficionados sweating. Take up the adventure for only 600 Wii points.

More concept art for Sega's upcoming superhero video game, Iron Man - Image 1

After acquiring the rights from Activision, Sega sets the stage for their latest superhero video game, Iron Man. The business man turned superhero finally gets his chance to step onto the next generation console platform with his very own video game, following his last appearance in Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Taking a look at the concept art Sega has released for the upcoming game, there's no doubt in anyone's mind that the armor-clad superhero will definitely make an impression when he hits the shelves. From the looks of it, Iron Man will using armor based closely on the film coming out next year. The game itself will be released sometime in spring next year.

Iron Man will be released on multiple platforms, namely the PC, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, PSP, Nintendo Wii and DS. Until then, let's keep our eyes on the sky for more updates on the game.

Iron Man - Image 1

More info about the latest superhero to make the jump from comic book frames and into the big screen with this developer interview of Sega's Iron Man, the man in the suit that never needs ironing (okay, bad joke, but I had to do it).

In this video, Beejey Inriquez, assistant producer of the Iron Man game, reassures both comic fans and video game fans that the game will not disappoint, seeing as he's a comic book fan himself and is quite familiar about the discerning taste of those enamored with superheroes fighting the good fight in frames.

That in itself is very good news, as staying true to comic book canon (or at the very least, being faithful to it) is a good way to make a great game. [Well, some of us aren't canon purists, but yeah, even if an adaptation veers from canon, it should still remain true to the spirit of the comic book original we have all grown to love, right? - Ed.]

Beejey was tightlipped about the game's juicier bits, but he did reveal that the armor itself will be very customizable to fit anyone's playing style. He also said that the title is coming out for every next-gen console (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii), both handhelds (DS, PSP), and the unforgettable PS2 and PC.

Very good news indeed coming from Sega. Updates as we get them, so enjoy the video!

Nintendo DS and Wii - Image 1Nintendo fans from Australia are getting some Ninty-brand loving for both of the company's platforms today. Both the Nintendo DS handheld system and the Nintendo Wii video game console are getting two titles each.

The DS gets Wario: Master of Disguise, which sees the popular anti-hero returning to his wicked ways in this action/theft game. Joining Wario on the DS is Chicken Little: Ace in Action featuring Chicken Little's superhero alter-ego Ace.

The Wii, meanwhile, gets Cooking Mama and Bust-a-Move. Both make use of the Wii's motion-sensing remote. Players can use it to simulate various kitchen utensils in Cooking Mama. In the puzzle game Bust-a-Move, the Wiimote can be used as either a gun or baton to blast bubbles to oblivion and beyond.

More Marvel superheroes for Sega - Thor, Captain America, and Hulk - Image 1With Iron Man already on their team, Sega's getting more Marvel superheroes for its line-up. Three more superheroes get drafted: patriotic Captain America, thunder god Thor, and the very angry Incredible Hulk.

The three will reportedly have movies, and of course, video game adaptations. Sega and Marvel have signed an extended deal that involves the three superhero's titles getting linked to future films. The Hulk's movie will coincide with the game June next year. Thor and Captain America's titles will come later, though they currently don't have ETAs. Both companies are enthusiastic about the joint projects. Chairman of Marvel Studios, David Maisel had this to say:

These franchises represent three of Marvel's most popular characters and lend themselves to captivating game play. We have already seen SEGA's passion for the Marvel Universe through the early development of the Iron Man video game, and we look forward to working closely with them over the next few years to maximize the potential of these franchises in the interactive entertainment space.

For now, the four Marvel superheroes will star in their individual titles. Though it would be cool to have them all in one title wouldn't it? The developers handling the games haven't been announced yet as the games are reportedly going multiplatform (PS3, Xbox360, PSP, DS, and PC). We'll bring you more info on this partnership and the resulting game. Stay tuned.
