Godzilla Unleashed Developers Blog: Monster Memories, Q and A - Image 1

The latest Godzilla Unleashed developers blog discussed the experiences of the members of Pipeworks Software with the Godzilla franchise. A few questions related with the video game issued by fans were also answered.

All members of the crew had their own Godzilla memories to share, with some even claiming the green lizard had a major impact in their lives. For example, Creative Director Mark Crowe spoke about how he will never forget the thrill of seeing his first Godzilla movie and how it still influences everything he does today.

Game producer Shelby Stair Wills also took the opportunity to address followers of the Godzilla Unleashed community who inquired about the length of an in-game day, the cost of various abilities such as flying, and the possibility of using music from old Godzilla movies.

Wills said that an encounter (or a battle) is equal to an in-game day. Each encounter varies in length from one to 10 minutes depending on the type of encounter and what the player does. Unfortunately, the video game developer didn't give any examples on what encounters we can expect to find so we'll just have to wait till the game is released to find out.

Wills also mentioned that flying will not cost any energy for monsters (such as Mothra or Fire Rodan) since this is their only way to move around the map. Much to the disappointment of many old school Godzilla fans, Wills said that they won't be using music from old Godzilla movies since it doesn't fit with the edgy and darker tone they were going for in this game. He pointed out however that the new tracks should still be cool with every monster having its own theme song.

Godzilla Unleashed (PSP, Wii, Nintendo DS) will be released this November 13 in the U.S. and November 22 in Europe.

Custom game modes in Godzilla: Unleashed - Image 1

Pipeworks Software has been feeding fans regular updates on Godzilla: Unleashed (Wii, PSP, Nintendo DS) through their developer's blog on IGN. Their latest entry posted by the title's producer, Shelby Stair Willis, discussed custom game modes - a feature that they've been planning to put in ever since Godzilla: Save the Earth.

While the option to jump straight into a standard multiplayer battle (called Brawl) is still available, players looking for a more unique experience will be treated to a variety of modifiable options. Among them include the number of lives each monster has as well as the victory conditions for the map. Here are a few of the other options that players can tweak as taken from the developer's blog:
  • type and aggression of the military
  • round length & number of rounds
  • type and frequency of powerups and powersurges
  • rate of critical mass accumulation
  • rate of health & energy regeneration
  • monster speed
Willis gave word asking gamers to pay particular attention to the last entry on the list. He said that they think "everyone will have a lot of fun with the option to set your monsters to be slow and ponderous, regular speed, or super fast." In a nod to long term fans of the Godzilla video game series, he also mentioned that have brought back the Tiny Monsters option in multiplayer.

This game looks to be a lot of fun, judging from the revealed features they've announced. In case this got your interest, you might want to know that Godzilla: Unleashed will be released this November 13 in North America with a European debut following on November 22. Atari and Pipeworks Software's Godzilla: Unleashed (PSP, Wii, Nintendo DS) is not just about Godzilla but all the ToHo monsters. While this blogger does not condone Godzilla getting his tail handed to him (go big G!), the videos show exactly that.

The Baragon video illustrates how damaging a giant monster can be if it learned how to cartwheel. The Rodan video on the other hand exemplifies how aerial superiority and agility can overcome even the strongest of foes. It looks like Godzilla is really going to have to go all out if he's to retain his title as "king of the monsters."

Slated for November 13 this year in North America and on November 22 in Europe, this is a game not to be missed by fans of fighting games and Godzilla alike. If you're either of the two, be sure to check out the videos.

The second video awaits after the jump!

Godzilla: Unleashed developers talk about Krystalak - Image 1

Pipeworks Software knows that Godzilla: Unleashed is all about the monsters. The producer of the game Shelby Stair Willis confirmed this notion in their developers blog as he recently detailed how they designed Krystalak, one of the monsters they're introducing in the game.

Amazingly, this is the first monster not designed by Toho, the creators of Godzilla. The developers had a long history with the company since they did work together on the previous two Godzilla games. Because of this they were given the chance to add their own creation to the Toho line-up of monsters.

Willis said that they wanted to create the monster to be specifically tied into the storyline of Godzilla: Unleashed. Since the game's storyline revolves around crystals, Krystalak was created as a crystal monster. To strengthen its connection to the crystals, the developers decided that it was spawned by the same meteor shower that started the strange crystal growths all over the world.

The developers went though a couple of redesigns before finally settling on their final product - a two-legged behemoth with a catlike leg structure. This monster can normally be found crouching, which makes him smaller than Godzilla, but it towers over even the Big G himself when it stands erect.

The monster looks pretty well designed and is a worthy addition to the line-up of monsters under Toho's belt. Godzilla: Unleashed looks to be one hell of a game, and is slated to be out this year on the PSP, Wii, and Nintendo DS. Godzilla: Unleashed dev blog update - Image 1 Godzilla: Unleashed dev blog update - Image 2 Godzilla: Unleashed dev blog update - Image 3

Pipeworks Software has been hard at work with Godzilla: Unleashed. In the recent post on the developers' blog, they announced quite a few updates on the game that fans would want to hear about. The first thing they discussed was the new water tech that they've developed.

They believe that it looks spectacular, and after seeing the screenshots, we can't help but agree. The look of the water has long been a problem for the developers and they're really proud about what they've accomplished this time.

In addition to this, they've also gotten the look of the various types of crystals in the game worked out. It looks like they've been burning the midnight oil on this update as well since they had to write new crystal shaders not to mention rework the shapes, textures, animations, and particle effects of the crystals.

Furthermore, the developers have given word that there are many types of crystals in the game and we'll be seeing more of it as we creep closer to the launch date. Speaking of which, the game will be released within the year on the PSP, Wii, and the Nintendo DS.

Here's a new video clip for the upcoming video game Godzilla: Unleashed featuring the Pipeworks Software Designer Simon Strange and Seattle. The designer hopes that the resident of the iconic city will appreciate what they've done with their locale - adding volcano and crystal formations, ultimately giving it an apocalyptic feel.

Strange explains in the clip the different aspects of this level, including the new engine they've used with the water as well as the relationship between the monsters and the crystals. According to him, these formations are the ones responsible why Godzilla's enemies became berserk.

Godzilla: Unleashed will be available later this tear. Its publisher, Atari, has yet to announce a concrete release date.

We've seen loads upon loads of Godzilla: Unleashed screenshots and read loads more of info about the upcoming Wii video game. Today, we've got a trailer for Atari and Pipeworks Software's giant radioactive monster game.

Honestly, the trailer looks eerily like the old Toho movies where the ginormous monsters step into a populated city and just, well... stomp away (*insert vision of running and screaming people here*). In the trailer, we see Godzilla in all his city destroying glory, bashing up buildings and enemies as well. We also see the stats and factions of Anguirus, Gigan, and Kiryu (a.k.a. Mechagodzilla).

At any rate, check out the video. We can't really say anything much about Godzilla: Unleashed for now, but the trailer is a good deal of fun. Enjoy!

What would Godzilla do without the other monsters? We're pretty sure he'll be stark raving bored. Good thing there are other radioactive giant monsters in the universe so our monster lizard can flex his muscles every once in a while. Today, we've got three of the contenders in Pipeworks Software and Atari's Godzilla: Unleashed.

First up is the spiked monstrosity of Anguirus. Think porcupine which fell into a vat of radioactive waste. He's from the Earth Defenders faction and is one of the feistier brawlers in Godzilla: Unleashed. His abilities and weapons include the Sonic Roar to stun enemies, his powerful bite, and his spiky outer shell; he can even roll himself into a ball and deliver massive hurt.

Up next comes another Earth Defender, King Caesar. He looks a bit like a cross between a lion and a dog but his looks doesn't reflect his agility and flexibility in battle. His entire body acts like a huge solar panel that absorbs energy both from the sun and from ranged energy attacks. There is a downside though, King Caesar has to expend the energy he has stored at a time - or he goes boom from overload.

Here comes one of the bad guys: King Ghidorah. He's a pawn for the Alien Invaders, along with Gigan. This three headed flying giant makes use of its amazing strength, size, and hard scales in battle. As you probably remember, King Ghidorah packs a hard punch with his Triple Gravity Beam.

Hmm... Thinking up strategies on how to beat them in Godzilla: unleashed? While you're at it, might as well check out the art and the clips for these monsters.

20 rampaging Godzilla Unleashed screens - Image 1

If you've been itching for the chance to take over control of giant monsters and rampage over cities, then Godzilla: Unleashed is perfect for you. It doesn't hurt that the guys at Pipeworks Software have made the game so darn hot.

We have another set of twenty screenshots that features Gigan from Final War, King Ghidorah, and Godzilla doing what they do best: kicking monster butt and taking names. Wii's graphical capabilities have been a concern lately, but these screens show it's arguably one of the best-looking games on the said console to date. Of course we're going to have to see the game's full version before we can say anything definitive, but the potential shines through in every screenshot.

Godzilla: Unleashed is slated to be out this year on two other platforms, the PlayStation Portable and the Nintendo DS. While waiting for the release date, why not take some time viewing the screenshots of the game? Be sure to keep checking back here for more updates on this game.
