The video game industry is undoubtedly dominated by males, but we do know that gaming is not just a big frat house. Female gamers do exist, and like the opposite gender, they come in different shapes, sizes and forms. If you do your homework, you'll also notice that girl gamers have distinct traits which allow us to divide them into several types (just like guys). In this QuickList, we'll give you a rundown on what these types are. Hit that jump! |

Electronic Arts' long-awaited dance party game Boogie has now hit its shipping date, which was followed with a prompt announcement by the worldwide publisher. The attention call via press wire heralded the shipping of Boogie for the Wii to stores all over North America and reminded that Europe was to receive their version by August 31. Rehashed versions of popular rhythm tracks by The Jackson 5, Kool & The Gang, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cyndi Lauper, Black Eyed Peas and Britney Spears, among others, will litter the game's selectable soundtrack. Coupled with enjoyment over the ultimate party mode, players will also be able to create their own music videos or groove solo in the story mode for fame and fortune. EA has estimated a price of US$ 59.99 for the game bundled with a karaoke microphone and announced an ESRB rating of E10+ (Lyrics and Suggestive Themes) for the U.S. version of the game. PEGI has rated the game as 3+ for European versions. |

If you fancy yourself as the next music sensation, stop reading and join American Idol. However, if you're not yet ready for the big leagues so to speak, you can live your dreams in Electronic Arts' Boogie. Essentially a karaoke and dance game for the Wii, this game provides budding performers with a way to channel their creativity without inconveniencing Simon Cowell. The game allows gamers to dance or sing songs from famous artists like Kool and the Gang which is pretty cool in itself, when you really think about it. Furthermore, don't think it ends there as you can even create your own musical clips with a selection of production tools. The interface looks very intuitive judging from the screenshots. The game is slated to be out on August 9 in the U.S. and August 31 in Europe. So go get your groove on with Boogie. Think of it as training for your future music career. Fonix Speech Inc. announced the other day that it just joined Nintendo's Third Party Tools Program so that Wii developers can now integrate embedded speech interfaces and voice recognition technologies Fonix VoiceIn Game Edition and Fonix VoiceIn Karaoke Edition in to their titles. In a nutshell, this affects your gaming experience in such a way that the said technologies will allow you to implement voice commands into gameplay. The Game Edition of VoiceIn is for your usual in-game commands mostly useful in tactical-based titles while the Karaoke one recognizes the timing, pitch, and accuracy of the player's voice. Quite interestingly, we learned at the beginning of this month that the motion-sensitive Wiimote has an additional feature that is still not being tapped by Nintendo or any other developers for that matter. That feature is actually an audio translator chip that is able to convert analog data such as human speech into a digital data stream. This announcement is clearly related to that and it would be good to see what kind of video games will translate from the said development. Fonix Speech has also made its technologies available for developers on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. |
