Q1 Rev - Image 1Izhido may be the DS Otaku (whatever that means), but that doesn't mean he won't brew for other platforms. Hence, exhibit A: Q1Rev, a port of the ID Software's Quake I for the Nintendo Wii. As far as playing it goes, this one's good to go and ready to rock, so why not spend a little time reliving the old Quake days?

Is Codemasters the Latest Publisher to Bail on the ESA? - Image 1We interrupt your regularly scheduled TGS updates for news on another gaming convention, E3. No, it's not dead yet. But this new development won't help it recover any.

It seems that Codemasters, the company behind Clive Barker's Jericho, Colin McRae, and Lord of the Rings Online, has left the ESA. This makes the sixth publisher to leave the organization since May.

E3 may not be as complete this year with several publishers missing - Image 1Normally, a major event such as E3 would have all the big name companies attending it.  This year will be different, though, as five publishers have decided to drop out of the event altogether. Part of the reason may be due to reported bad blood between them and ESA president Mike Gallagher. More on this after the jump.

QuickJump QuickList: The top ten scariest games of all time - Image 1

Trick or treat! It's the day of the year when everyone's in the mood for chills and thrills, so we decided to conform with the times and conjure up some scary memories. This Halloween, we're bringing you a nostalgic treat of what we think are the most horrific gaming experiences ever. Did any of these games make you sweat cold and wet your pants when you were younger? Let's see when you post your comments below!

10. Sanitarium
- Even with the limited PC graphics of the late 90s, developer DreamForge was able to come up with a little-known masterpiece of a game. What starts out as a rather generic premise of waking up in a sanitarium with no memories quickly transforms into a plot so vividly grotesque that it makes the simple point, click, and interact mechanic palm-sweatingly intense.

Describing Sanitarium in more detail will give away some twists in the very intricate story of self-discovery. All we can say is that if you ever get a chance to play it, you'll definitely be more scared of getting committed to a mental institution than ever before.

9. Dark Seed - For a game released in 1992 for the PC, Dark Seed can definitely hold its own against today's spooks in terms of storytelling, execution, and horror taste. Set in a locale where even things as mundane as dolls can turn into objects of terror, you'll immediately get the sensation that nobody is to be trusted.

The dated visuals may not turn heads today, but looking closer at H.R. Giger's artwork of the alien fiend gripping suburbia will prove to you that horror is timeless and good horror art can scare anyone at any era.

Pachter predicts better quarter results for Activision - Image 1Despite Activision's optimistic US$ 250 million sales estimate for the end of Q3 for fiscal year 2007, Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter seems to think that the Santa Monica-based publisher's projections were a bit modest. In fact, Pachter believes that with last quarter's spillover success of Transformers: The Game and RedOctane's Guitar Hero II, Activision should expect to net a whole lot more.

A note entitled Encore: Activision Rocks the Quarter, Again authored by Pachter ran numbers for Guitar Hero II's sales estimates, and the guitar rhythm title has already gained a consolidated 3.5 million unit sales on both the Sony PlayStation 2 and Microsoft's Xbox 360, leading to at least US$ 270 million in gross sales.

Pachter does admit that the publisher's lineup has but a few big titles that could have warranted the throttled projection, but he does acknowledge that id Software's Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars and RedOctane's Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80s would have uplifted the performance by some degree. Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PS3, Microsoft Windows PC) has yet to make landfall in North America, so it would contribute to Activision's Q4 sales.

Overall, the analyst pegs a more optimistic target of US$ 300 million (59% increase from last year's quarter performance) to be nabbed in sales for this quarter, due to a predicted 122% increase in sales for the publisher's current products. In a short note, Pachter added, "We think guidance is extremely conservative and recommend that investors opportunistically add to positions."

Looks like his confidence is placed, but investors may still have to ponder this one out.
