Wii homebrew - Image 1Uffe Flarup whips up another homebrew game, and if you've got the Homebrew Channel installed in your Wii, you're good to go. This one's called Hex - not the spell you use to turn people into little critters - but a game based on the two-player board game created by Piet Hein and John Nash.

GeckoOS v1.07b - Image 1 Wiibrew dev Nuke has released the latest version of GeckoOS, which corrects a sorta-bug in the previous one. While the previous version allowed you to copy games with the "no copy" flag, it seems that the copy itself still had the flag toggled and so was unable to be copied back to the Wii. This is now fixed. More after the link.

Got a Mac with an AirPort card and a Nintendo Wii? Thanks to a tutorial from Steve Clifford, you can now use your Mac's AirPort card to share your internet connection with your Wii. This is good for Mac owners who happen to have the card but don't have a wireless router.

First you'll need to make sure that you're currently connected to the internet through something other than your AirPort card. Also, make sure that AirPort is on and that you have the Wii close by. This tutorial doesn't involve any tinkering with the hardware -- which could void your warranty -- just the settings.

Anyway, here we go:

Nintendo Wii - Image 1Step One: Turn on Internet Sharing
  1. Go to System Preferences, click on the Sharing icon, then click on the Internet tab.
  2. Change the ‘Share your connection from’ pop-up to Built-in Ethernet.
  3. Under the ‘To computers using’ section, check the AirPort box.
  4. Click Airport Options, and enter an easy name such as wii in the Network Name box.
  5. OPTIONAL: Use any password that fits your settings (i.e. 128 bit WEP requires 13 characters).
  6. Click OK if you’re on the AirPort Options screen.
  7. Click Start in the Internet Sharing panel.
The full tutorial is after the jump!

FTW - for the Wii!!! - Image 1We have here for you the WabModCheap v2.0 from AloneTrio. What this program does is that it patches the Wii to allow backups to load. This version still lacks some features including the max drive speed "OnTheFly Region Patching" the dev says he's still working on.

There also have been some requests for a hex for the 12f629 to be included in the coming versions of the program, but some people have already stated that this isn't needed because there's already a hex for 12f629 which is WiiFree 1.50, an app similar to the WabModCheap.

Anyhow, check it out and let us know how you find it.

Update: The wab site has just been updated with a new version of this app. WabModCheap version 2.1 is already up for grabs. AloneTrio informs us that this version doesn't contain the bug from version 2.0 that some users have found problematic (the bug in DMS/D2A Detection). So give the dev and us feedback if this one's a lot better.

Miis - Image 1

Here's something cool for you to try out on your Miis. A resourceful Wii owner by the name of David Hawley has found a way to create Miis with different-colored pants. Through some creative hex editing, you can also make your very own Special Mii with matching gold pants.

There's a catch with the Special Miis, though. According to Hawley, these Miis can't be copied, and you can't do everything you normally would with them. Hawley says that the following message appears if you try to send your Special Mii to someone else:

When you send a Special Mii, it will leave your Mii Plaza. Also, if the friend you send it to already has a special Mii or doesn't use the Mii Channel, the special Mii you sent could vanish.

Also, if you try to copy your Special Mii to your Wiimote, it gets moved instead of copied. You also can't have two identical Special Miis in the Mii Plaza. Changing their names don't work, too.

To find out just how you can make your very own Special Mii, click on the "read" link below. There are also instructions there on how to create Foreign Miis (the ones with blue pants).
