thumb - Image 1This is a category that's especially close to my heart, kudos to those who dared to risk all, who colored outside the lines and put the extra thinkin' effort into giving us something fresh.

Once again, a lot of our editors agreed on one very special title... Unreal Tournament III... just kidding!

Xbox 360 outsells PS3 in Japan for September - Image 1Third time's the charm for Microsoft. The latest numbers from Japan show that the Xbox 360 has once again outsold the PlayStation 3 for the third week running. And crunching some numbers reveal that the Xbox 360 outsold the PlayStation 3 for the entire month of September.

It's a little too early for Christmas miracles, so I'd say this is... a Halloween miracle?

Thumb - Image 1 It's been a few days since Halloween, so we'd rather honor the most memorable deaths that made gamers shriek, throw tantrums, and cry. Of course, along the line are deaths so dramantic, shocking, or simply sad that they're difficult to forget. In other words, a list of characters who died in ways that scarred our minds, or those we felt so attached to that seeing them perish became emotional. If it's not obvious enough, we'll have to warn you about major spoilers that await.

QuickJump QuickPeek 18 - Image 1

Article originally posted Oct 27, 2007 at 02:20PM

(Editor's Note: Double, double, toil and trouble; fire burn and cauldron bubble; eye of newt and... all that jazz. What's your costume going to be like this year? It's finally that time of year when CosPlay fanatics can run wild in the streets without fear of getting hounded by the cops. Do we have some people coming in as Kratos this year? Maybe wanna dress up as a character from a new IP, like say, Altair from
Assassin's Creed - he seems to be pretty popular among the ladies. Be that as it may, it's time to don the QuickJump QuickPeek suit - hold the eye of newt, please! The 18th edition rolls out today!)

Clear the decks for this one, folks! Following last week's #17, QuickJump QuickPeek 18 has parked its merry bottom on the QJ blogs! Halloween is just around the corner and this edition of our weekly recap has nothing less than the most wicked news and updates. Of course, "wicked" here may connote either of two things: 1) wicked in the sense of being vilely putrid in nature, or 2) wicked in the sense of being made out of pure win, awesome, or [insert your own expletive of jubilation].

This week, we've got a heavy dosage of updates that'll make pumpkin heads roll. For one, Clive Barker's Jericho is already on shelves this week for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 - that right there is probably enough to give you some goosebumps for the next couple of weeks. Rawr. Now just to give you a slight swig from the QuickPeek cauldron, it's a potion of sorts with various PSP batteries colliding, highly-anticipated games finally getting the gold status, and some little after taste of bold remarks from iconic analysts, CEOs, and attorneys.

Something wicked this way comes! On with the pumpkin rolling!

Here's three new trailers for The Simpsons Game in anticipation for its release on October 30. The trailers (for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii) feature Bartman battling it out with Lard Lad, a huge mascot wielding a donut. You might remember the donut titan in one of the series' Halloween specials.

The first trailer shows the fight scene against Lard Lad, where Bartman has to kick his butt... and pull out a few wires while he's at it. The second video shows a clip scene of the after-battle 2D animated sequence, and the third trailer shows a montage of clips from the game (including Lard Lad).

The Simpsons Game will be out for the Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, PS2, PSP and DS by the end of the month. Check out the rest of the trailers after the jump.

DoA girls - Image 1While this list isn't exactly the most original of its kind, we wanted to offer our take on which mamas are the hottest in the virtual world. Everything here is subjective and any list is as good as ours. So without remorse, this is our top 10 hottest game babes to date:

10. Maria Renard (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night)- The blonde hottie from Alucard's big night out may not have been seen in 3D glory and all, but the portrait was convincing enough. With her perfect complexion, killer brown eyebrows and the wavy, golden hair, she was a perfect leading lady to match with the vampiric charm of Dracula's son.

9. Mai Shiranui (King of Fighters)- Mai first appeared in the first half of the 90's in Fatal Fury 2. She immediately became one of the stars of the game for obvious reasons: She had the moves and the physique to match. Where rival bear 'em up Street Fighter II featured more conservative lady brawlers, SNK showed Mai's assets off with an innovative twist: Bouncing jubblies! Now imagine the testosterone levels in the old-school arcades more than a decade ago.

8. Aerith Gainsborough (Final Fantasy VII)- The gorgeous good girl of the legendary RPG Final Fantasy VII may have led a short and sweet character lifespan, but the fact remains that she's still one of the most beloved females in the business to date. Okay, the clothes she wore may not exactly be revealing, but we have to understand that it's how she was meant to be packaged in the first place. Imagine if she was a bit more fashion-trendy: She would have given the DoA girls a run for their money.

7. Morrigan Aensland (Dark Stalkers)- The naughty night warrior does that succubus lineage proud. She looked fantastic in 2D and had the ferocity to match. The anime spin-off of Capcom's popular Halloween fighter did her justice as she was just as charming there. Call her costume weird, but that only strengthens the convictions of her appeal. You gotta admit, not a lot of girls will look sexy in that!

More ladies follow at the full article.

Pika-CHEW!!!

Halloween might be over, but we just couldn't resist posting another entry of zombies: disconfigured jaws, hollow eye sockets, mutilated limbs, and all. Ah the fresh smell of rotting flesh in the morning. Nothing like it. Every day is a zombie day in QJ (or so this discombobulated writer would like to think), and zombie posts are never out of place.

Newgrounds has recently posted the winners of their NG Halloween Art Contest. Now, as art contests go, this isn't really something entirely new. Blizzard has them every year. Guild Wars even had its art-and-crafts contest this year. However, the interesting twist to Newgrounds' contest is that they were calling for some fan art  of zombified video game characters!

Take the above for example. That's one of the 1st Placers (done by Deks). We don't know what the name of the artwork is, but we're playfully calling it Pika-CHEW! Below, we have other contest winners' entries. There's a Sam Fishbreath, ArmlessNess, and something which looks like it came from a "Night of the Living Dead-Sonic-and-Friends." Yes, those aren't the titles, but hey, they work!

Here comes de hot steppa...

Well, this Halloween season, one brave soul went out into the streets completely dressed up as a Nintendo Wii. I suppose it IS a valid theme, considering that it was Halloween and the Wii is coming out in only a couple of weeks or so anyway, and heck, even Cartman can't wait for a Wii...

In any case, the body of the costume is composed of 3 Wiis that are show side-by-side, while the wearer's legs and arms are the console's matching Wiimotes. The ensemble even comes with a Classic Controller mask, and we THINK that his feet may be nunchuck attachments. We think.

We're just hoping that he got all the candy he wanted.

The Rabbids over at Rayman Raving Rabbids are a strange freak of nature indeed - they're ugly enough to make an onion cry, and yet, like a butt-ugly pug, they're irresistibly cute.

Never mind that they're out to take over the world or they're psychotic - you just wanna pick one of 'em up, and hug 'em and squeeze 'em and call them George...uhh, sorry, had a cuteness attack there.

Well, anyway, the Rabbids are back again this Halloween, and they've come up with this extremely short but cute (I wanna huggie!) vid on what they yet again cannot do...are you SURE they're trying to take over the world? It's still gonna be a few months before we'll be seeing any of these bunnies on the Xbox 360 or Wii, so just sit back, and enjoy their Halloween treat for you.

Now, if we can just get more vids of the Rayman himself...
