Alien Syndrome Wii delayed in Europe - Image 1Gaming site NGCFrance reports that video game title Alien Syndrome for Wii will not be released as scheduled in Europe. Instead of being available on June 23, the game now has a new release schedule of July 13. What's curious is that no reason or explanation was given for the delay.

Alien Syndrome actually started as an arcade game back in 1987. All succeeding versions until the one on the Game Gear back in 1992 were developed and published by Sega. The title is a run and gun game where players control soldiers Ricky and Mary whose objective is to rescue their comrades being held captive by alien intruders.

The new title, which will be appearing on the PlayStation Portable (PSP) platform as well, is not a port. It is actually a re-start of the franchise and takes place a century after the previous games.

The new Alien Syndrome features new character Aileen Harding. RPG elements also have been incorporated into the gameplay. The game has a total of 15 different levels with five main bosses and 15 sub-bosses. Aside from being able to access a total of 80 different weapons, players will also have the option to fully optimize their characters.

Alien Syndrome from Sega and Totally Games certainly had quite a journey from the arcade, Commodore 64, NES, DOS, and Game Gear to the PSP and Wii. Today, we've got the developer diary of senior designer for the videogame, Jeff Kung.

We see Alien Syndrome's heroine, Earth Command Trooper Aileen Harding in action - using different weapons. Kung talked about the advantages of the Wiimote in playing Alien Syndrome. He gave a little demonstration on how gameplay (read: obliterating aliens) would work on the Nintendo's console. We see the 360 attack, the thrust, and the cool finishing move.

We'll quit with the prattle and let you watch the video. Alien Syndrome will be coming to the Wii and the PSP this summer. So, while we wait - check out the video.

Sonic Spinball, Sega Genesis packshot - Image 1Classic gaming greets the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console store once again, as we announce this week's (March 12, 2007) retro trio: Tecmo Bowl (NES), Sonic Spinball (Sega Genesis), and Double Dungeon (TurboGrafx-16).

The first title we'll be mentioning is Tecmo Bowl, an arcade-turned NES sports game. This game allows players to choose from one twelve football teams, and it carries unique features (for its time) like giving players the ability to break tackles in-game. The game allows for 1 to 2 players, and will cost 500 Wii Points.

Next up is Sonic Spinball, originally released for the Sega Genesis console in 1993, before making it to the Game Gear, and then on the Master System in Europe in 1994. In this title, Dr. Robotnik has turned Mt. Mobius into a mechanical fortress powered by the volcano's flowing magma.

From here, Dr. Robotnik begins (as usual) transforming Mobius' animals into robots, and it's once again up to Sonic the Hedgehog to stop his plans - by destroying this mountain base from the inside. The game supports 1 to 4 players, and will cost 800 Wii Points.

Lastly, we have Double Dungeons, originally from the TurboGrafx-16 console. This RPG game allows two players to play simultaneously as they navigate the game's 22 unique scenarios spread out across 6 levels. As players progress, they can also accumulate gold and experience to buy equipment, rest at an inn, or raise their character's level. The game supports 1 to 2 players, and will cost 600 Wii Points.

Sega - Image 1Totally Games - Image 1 Sega surprised the world the other day when it announced that it will be resurrecting Alien Syndrome on the PSP and on the Wii.

To those of you who aren't old enough to remember, the game is a run and gun arcade game released back in 1987. It was ported on several systems and its last appearance was on the Sega Game Gear in 1992.

The new game developed by Totally Games will highlight a new Earth Command Trooper in the person of Aileen Harding. Old timers might miss Ricky and Mary but we reckon that Harding could be as good as well. All we know is, our new savior will have 20 different weapons in her arsenal for blasting away - what else - aliens.

Here's the first gameplay video for Alien Syndrome in case you want to familiarize yourself more with the game. It's expected to hit retail stores sometime this summer.

EccoWe just announced all of the titles that will be added to the Wii's Virtual Console by the end of December, and two have just showed up available for download. These two, Ecco The Dolphin and Golden Axe, both Sega Genesis games, have been added today for your downloadable pleasure. I myself recall playing Ecco on my old Sega Game Gear and never recalled beating it. So, either I should use 8 batteries to power up my Game Gear or download onto my Wii (I think I'll go with the Wii).

Both of these games are available for download for 800 points (8$) from the Wii Shop channel right now. To get points, all you need is a pre-paid Wii Points card or a Mastercard/Visa credit card. So if you are a fan of one of the hardest games of all time (my personal opinion from past experience) by navigating a dolphin through beautiful scenery or want to beat up some big ogre-like men, give these games a try!
