Ys - Image 1The Ys (rhymes with "tease") series will be getting a couple of new entries this year. The announcement was made by Falcom at a recent fan event held in Tokyo. One is supposed to be the next entry in the series while the other seems to be another rehash of the first two Ys games. More after the jump.

Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn - Image 1

Nintendo's Fire Emblem franchise could be heading into a whole new direction starting with the next game in the series. According to IGN, Nintendo and developer Intelligent Systems recently hinted to Dengeki Wii & DS Style that online components may appear in the next Fire Emblem game.

Nintendo producer Hitoshi Yamagami reportedly told the magazine that his team was "originally considering Wi-Fi compatibility" for the recent Wii title Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn. Development towards an online feature for map and unit downloads was undertaken, but balance and technology difficulties kept it out of Goddess of Dawn.

"This would be the first FE for the Wii, so we decided to focus on single player and held back on Wi-Fi," said Yamagami. "However, for the next title, if we have the chance, we'd like to use it."

With Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn just recently released in Japan, pretty much everything about the next game in the series is pure speculation, but the thought of having Wi-fi battles in a series that made a name for itself as one of the best single-player strategy games around sure sounds interesting.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I never got the chance to own a Gamecube. This unfortunate fact means that I never got to play Path of Radiance, and that's why I'm itching like crazy for a chance to play Fire Emblem: The Goddess of Dawn. I really want to make up for missing Path, I guess.

Anyway, today we have nine new screenshots from Goddess of Dawn today, along with a bit of autotranslated game info from Dengeki Online. According to Dengeki, Goddess of Dawn will be the first game in the series where the elevation factor takes effect. I'm guessing that this will be similar to the elevation factor used in turn-based strategy games like some of the titles in the venerable Ogre Battle series and Final Fantasy Tactics.

You can check out the elevation factor in one of the images below. The screenshots also feature stills from the game's FMVs as well as some battle screen images. Fire Emblem: The Goddess of Dawn will be released in Japan on February 22 for JPN 6,800 (US$ 56) including tax.

Okay, I gotta admit, I had a hard time understanding what Dengeki Online was saying about the Nintendo World 2006 event. The event was was held at the Makuhari Messe Ia convention center at the Chiba Prefecture (which, according to Wikipedia, is close to Tokyo) a couple of days earlier (November 25, to be exact).

I mean yeah, thanks to Google translate I was able to make out phrases such as "line of the eaves common 30 minute", "the line of the long snake which exceeds waiting 3 hours was possible", and "experience the new work title of the next generation game machine" but these lines don't really mean a lot. Thankfully, our source was equipped with pictures. And as the cliche goes, "a picture's worth a thousand words".

Judging from those photos, we can make out that people waited in line for hours just so they can have a first-hand experience of the Wii, Nintendo's newest baby. Now, although the said console was already launched in U.S. during the 19th, it won't reach Japanese shores until December 2, which basically explains the "the line of the long snake" just so they can "experience the new work title of the next generation machine". Want to take a better look at their "experience"? Click "Full Article" for the whole batch up of pics!

Check out the whole thing after the jump!
