Wii Homebrew Media Player download - Image 1A new version is out for GeeXboX, the Media Center prototype for the Wii (now in its alpha stages). Wiibrew - Wii Homebrew - news and downloads - Image 1It's been a while since we heard from GeeXboX, but it seems the wait was well worth it. In case you missed the previous release, GeeXboX is a media center prototype for the Wii. This build is based on the recently released Whiite-Linux system, which adds a significant number of features to the program, including networking and USB support. Details in the full article.

The Wii Weekend WarriorOla, Wiibrewers! It's been a busy week on the Wiibrew front this week. Several of our favorite Wiibrew programs were updated this week, including the Homebrew Browser and WiiPhysics. Wii Linux project: Debian etch v4.0 and Whiite v0.1 - Image 1If the PlayStation 3 could do it, so could the now open Nintendo Wii - with a little ingenuity, we care to add. The GC-Linux Team has released a major update to the Wii Linux project, and now the specially crafted Linux flavor distro is loaded with new applications and features that Linux whizzes will definitely appreciate as soon as they try it out. But be careful: the installation of Debian etch 4.0 and Whiite 0.1 requires a little more work than usual. That and more at the full story.

Video - Hack - Wii Fit hacked to work with World of Warcraft - Image 1Now we've seen several homebrew applications come out that pairs up PCs and Wiimotes, but here's one that uses the Wii Balance Board. Two grad students traverse World of Warcraft's Azeroth using the Board. Now that's something that can really catch on. Watch a video of the Board in action in the full article.

Nintendo Wii Homebrew - Wiibrew- WiiuseJ - info and download - Image 1If you're a programmer, you might take an interest in this new Java API, WiiuseJ. It's a simple and lightweight API that lets you write Java programs that can interface with the Wiimote as well as the Nunchuck. Wii Remote controller for Nintendo Wii console - Image 1We may soon be seeing the rise of even more homebrew applications in the near future thanks to a recent hack provided by developer marcan42. In a video featured in our full article, he was able to gain access to the Nintendo Wii's internal Bluetooth controller via the USB interface and figure out the code behind the Wii Remote controller. Johnny Lee: on his experience with the potentials of the Wiimote - Image 1It seems that Johnny Lee has been getting more popular with how he was able to copy the keyboard-free technology found in the scene of the "Minority Report" movie using a Wiimote.
