In the scene of executing unsigned code on the Nintendo Wii, parties
behind the recent exploits on Nintendo's next-gen console have
continued to make slow but steady progress. The latest update from
homebrew insider brakken, who you'll remember for his take of the
WiiLi content-stealing deal, pits an SD Card DOL Loader by DDF which is exactly how you'd imagine an SDLoader for GameCube would work. But this one's for the Wii. Check out the full article. |

The folks at WiiLi.org are after a very important bounty, it seems. In fact, it's so important that they're making it a race for folks to cash in on their technical skills. At least, it will be once the bounty actually goes live. The quest? Boot Linux on a Wii. The prize? US$ 499 (possibly more) and the knowledge that you completely pwned every other techie who took up the challenge. The bounty is currently a draft though, so there's no official word on when this race actually starts, but here are the specifics of the criteria for winning the prize as drafted on April 20:

The author of the application notes in a to-do list that for future versions of the application, he intendeds to add support for resolutions higher than 800 x 600 and implement a function wherein users can automatically launch GlovePIE scripts. Good work skyworxx! Download [WiiFronted Beta v.0.030] |

The WiiLi project has become some sort of a recurring news around here. While we aren't part of the development team itself, we are rather curious as to how this final project would eventually turn out. They've had their share of ups and downs and right now, they are needing once more the community's help.In their Wiki page, the WiiLi team announced that they need and want to reverse engineer the Wiimote. By reverse engineering, this is exactly what they mean:
The WiiLi project began as a dream final college project. While the team is pushing forward, we wonder if they had bitten more than they can chew. Finally, in case you're wondering how much money have been donated to the project, the answer is we don't know. Somehow, the announcement is not appearing on their site anymore. They previously mentioned that donations will be accepted until December 21. |

Jordan Sanborn has a script up at wiili.org that allows you to use two Wiimotes in tandem to simulate guitar playing. Don't believe us? Well, check out the YouTube video that he's got below (oh, and before we forget, emo alert! ~Wiimo):
Anyway, first up in the vid is a little song in the spirit of Christmas, then it's a demonstration of a few of the functions that he's added to version 2.0 of his GraphPIE (that PIE for programmable input emulator) script. General reaction from the populace so far? Well, other than minor disappointments over having to use two Wiimotes, it positive overall, and people are already looking to add other functions or simulate other instruments like violins or drums. If you want to check out the script yourselves, feel free to use our read link below. |

We came across certain reports that the highly anticipated WiiLi project is currently in jeopardy. Apparently, some members of the development team have been taking the money donated for the project and - what else? - keeping it for themselves. Now, we have no way of confirming this but we can string all the details we have for you so as you could draw your own conclusions about this matter. According to sources, these reports and complaints are coming from the supporters of the project themselves. The reports added that the forum section of WiiLi's wiki page is swarming with flames and sharp words. Unfortunately, the forum section is currently down. Hmm... The only active link is the main page which is not looking suspicious at all. But from the last time we've visited them, certain matters had come up. For one thing, these are examples of the development team's message to their supporters: We are selling links from our forums to raise funds for a new dedicated server. If interested please pm tuxido on the forums with an offer. The links will be displayed on every post where the amazon banner is now. Hello Digg and Slashdot! You are one of the reasons that we are moving to a dedicated server. Please chip in with a Paypal donation, and next time you visit, our server won't melt. Any QJ reader that is related or familiar with the WiiLi project could help shed some light on this matter. Please feel free to discuss in the comment's section about WiiLi and what's the real score. Lastly, the dev team will be accepting donations until December 21. Their current account stands at US$ 618. |
