Wiisic was created by Michael Dietmayr - Image 1Did you know that you can stream music using your Nintendo Wii? Well, if you don't but want to, this application is just what you are looking for!

Homebrew developer Max Maurer has created a software tool called Wiisic that lets you stream music using your Wii. To run it, all you need are the Wii console's Opera Browser and Java installed on your PC unit.

Wiisic is currently on version 0.80 and a lot have happened since it was released back in January of this year. We're giving you the full changelog below for v0.80 and other relevant changes to help you get accustomed to Wiisic.

Version History

  • 0.80
    • Since I got my new 16:9 LCD screen last week. I concluded, do work again on Wiisic. I spent the last three days, rewriting the complete player code. Now the whole application should be hopefully "uncrashable".
    • New feature: Directory navigator. Navigate through all subdirectories of the folder you specified and play the files in there.
    • Complete new player code. Hopefully "uncrashable".
    • 16:9 white player skin.
  • 0.79
    • Command line interface. For those unix-server freaks, with no graphics at all. Use "java -jar Wiisic.jar -?" for options.
    • I received a new Icon File from cubedman990.
  • 0.78
    • Icon added: The java cup is gone! Wiisic now has it's on application icon (launch it and look in the upper left corner). Big Thanks goes out to DeadMeat_84, who created it.
    • Network error fixed: Another error on network adaptors should now be fixed. The Mac-Address problem from Version 0.76 reappeared.
  • 0.77
    • Network error fixed: The last fixed created the same problem on unix computers. Advanced IP checking is performed now.
  • 0.76
    • Network error fixed: The correct IP of the selected network device was not used by Wiisic.
    • Network error fixed: Instead of an IP-Address Mac addresses have been displayed on Mac Computers.
If you want to know more about the past versions of Wiisic, you can refer to our Read link below. It should take you to Wiisic's official website.

Vilvic contents - Image 1Damons2k2's Vilvic Media Center is a new media app that rivals Red Kawa's own media centers, allowing users to share their own media from their PS3 to PCs running the Vilvic Media Center. It's still in beta stage though, so expect some work to be done before you can fully explore everything this app has to offer.

One thing you'll have to remember though is that since this can be accessed from any web browser, this can work just as easily on the PlayStation 3 or the Wii. Make sure you read the Vilvic Media Center readme though, because the process to set it up does take while to complete.

In any case, Here is the release information for this application:
  • Fixed the problem with streaming mp3's.
  • Added support for very large files - should be able to handle files up to 8388607 terrabytes!. (in theory)
  • When the PS3 sends a request to VMC for a file there is a header placed at the beginning of this file. In this header it specifies the size of the file. It appears if this number is 4294967296L (4gb) or bigger then the file fails to download. So the solution to the problem is to not return the file size for files equal to or bigger than 4gb. What happens for files of 4gb is that the progress bar goes straight to 100% but you will notice that circle thing in the top right is rotating. It is actually downloading at this point. When it has finsihed you will get the usual message that the download has complete. The strange thing is that it reports that the file is 0k but fortunately it is lying. Go to the video menu on the PS3 and check the file size and it's the correct size.
  • Out of interest on my local PC the through put is approximately 4Mb per second.
  • Removed the attribute replacespaces from directories and folders (it served no purpose).
  • Added new attribute filesystemicon to the server for Unix and Mac users where it is unable to retrieve the file system icon. This has added two new images that can be skinned (folder.png and file.png). It is also worth mentioning that if you have large directories and it is taking a while to load the page set this option to yes and you will see an improvement in performance. The changes made in this release appear to make the icons load quicker (but atleast you have the option to switch it off).
  • Fixed the problem on Unix (and hopefully Mac) where the file server was struggling to locate files.
  • Removed the attribute replacespaces from directories and folders (it served no purpose). Added new attribute filesystemicon to the server for Unix and Mac users where it is unable to retrieve the file system icon. This has added two new images that can be skinned (folder.png and file.png).
  • Added parameter to vmc.jar to specify the location of the server.xml. Now works properly with Unix and Mac.
  • Initial release
