QuickJump QuickPeek - Image 1It's quite an emotional rollercoaster, this week really was. Straight off from the news that the King of Pop has died, we went on to have the usual string of gaming news that rocked our own worlds. With the usual news on lawsuits, layoffs, company shutdowns, convicted murderers over consoles, it was looking to be a sad state of affairs. Good thing we've got our own Neverland to brighten things up a bit. And now we've come to the Fourth of July weekend. Time to kick off those shoes, stretch out, unwind and celebrate. You know we all deserve it. Happy FOJ weekend, everyone!

Gamezola - Image 1

There's a new game trading site in town, and it boasts of a quality way to get the games you want, so long as you take care of the games you own yourself. It's called GameZola, and they boast some unique features.

For starters, they're banking on increased security to give themselves that boost among conscientious gamers by tracking games from the moment they're sent into their offices and out of their base. At the same time, trading is done with gamers in mind, letting you see the activity happening with the trades you're making and allowing people to buy tokens through PayPal with which to purchase trades rather than subscribing to a service to get your games.

Simon Lee, Chief Operating officer of the service, had this to say, "We were simple gamers who just got tired of spending so much on used or new games from retailers. So we started developing Gamezola for gamers by gamers." Well, with a distribution service that's easier on the wallet, you can be certain that they'll be getting themselves a pretty faithful userbase soon enough.

Child's Play

Amidst the bad PR we gamers usually get, Child's Play trudges on to get the world to think otherwise. This year, it has raised around US$ 963,000 for sick children in hospitals around the world.

Child's Play is a Seattle-based charitable organization founded in 2003 by gamers Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, aka Gabe and Tycho of Penny Arcade. The organization donates games, DVDs, books, and other toys to sick kids around the globe, including hospitals in Canada, Britain, Egypt, and Australia. Gamers, or people who simply wish to help, can see the wish lists at Amazon.com or donate cash through PayPal.

This helps a lot of sick kids go through uncomfortable treatments and gives them some sort of relief that they would be able to play while in therapy. And some people think gamers are mindless zombies with cash to burn. Think about it, hitting the one million mark would be a great milestone for all of us.

WiiLiWe came across certain reports that the highly anticipated WiiLi project is currently in jeopardy. Apparently, some members of the development team have been taking the money donated for the project and - what else? - keeping it for themselves.

Now, we have no way of confirming this but we can string all the details we have for you so as you could draw your own conclusions about this matter. According to sources, these reports and complaints are coming from the supporters of the project themselves. The reports added that the forum section of WiiLi's wiki page is swarming with flames and sharp words. Unfortunately, the forum section is currently down. Hmm...

The only active link is the main page which is not looking suspicious at all. But from the last time we've visited them, certain matters had come up. For one thing, these are examples of the development team's message to their supporters:

We are selling links from our forums to raise funds for a new dedicated server. If interested please pm tuxido on the forums with an offer. The links will be displayed on every post where the amazon banner is now.

Hello Digg and Slashdot! You are one of the reasons that we are moving to a dedicated server. Please chip in with a Paypal donation, and next time you visit, our server won't melt.

Any QJ reader that is related or familiar with the WiiLi project could help shed some light on this matter. Please feel free to discuss in the comment's section about WiiLi and what's the real score. Lastly, the dev team will be accepting donations until  December 21. Their current account stands at US$ 618.

Phishing attempts riding on Lik-Sang's demiseThere have been several reports that certain e--mails supposedly from Lik-Sang are being circulated. These emails are suspected to be phishing attempts which are taking advantage of Lik-Sang's recent and very public announcement that they are going out of business and that they would issue refunds to everyone with outstanding orders with the company.

For those unfamliar with the term, "phishing" is defined as "a criminal activity using social engineering techniques. Phishers attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy person or business in an electronic communication. Phishing is typically carried out using e-mail or an instant message, although phone contact has been used as well."

In the case of this fake Lik-Sang e-mail, the e-mail states that the receiver of the message is due to receive an additional US$9.99 refund on top of whatever else they are supposed to receive. The e-mail will then request the user to confirm his or her PayPal account by clicking on a link.

As with any suspicious-looking e-mail, DO NOT CLICK ON THESE LINKS as it leads to a fake PayPal log-in page which uses the domain "LJK-SANG.COM" (note the "J" in the name) instead of "PAYPAL.COM". This page is likely meant to gather people's PayPal log in information as well as financial details.

frozenUh-oh...this seems like some big trouble. We've gotten word that PayPal has put a hold on all the funds from PS3 sales via eBay. Well, at least until November 17, or until the seller can provide PayPal with a tracking number. This means that even qualified PS3 and Wii sellers won't be able to access their funds for at least a month, since PayPal is the only payment option allowed for these products.

There was this seller who had been with eBay since 1998 and with PayPal since 2000, and according to him, he got a call from PayPal, asking for confirmation if he did sell a PS3 online for US$ 2025. To his surprise, he was informed that a limit's been put on his account until the item's been shipped.

Furthermore, while he could continue to receive payments and add money to his account, he could not, for the meantime, withdraw funds or spend any money from it. As mentioned earlier, this lockdown is effective until November 17, or until he's provided a tracking number as proof that he's already shipped the goods.

So now, sellers are trying to find ways for them to get to auction or sell their consoles. However, apparently, they'd still be tied down by this new policy of PayPal. While it is understandable that PayPal needs to have the transactions secured, it's also understandable why customers will be put off by the sudden implementation of this policy. After all, they weren't even given fair warning that something like this would be put in place.

So, for all you future sellers out there, just make sure you work well within the requirements so that you won't have to be hassled expecting money that you can't touch.

PS3 auctions on eBay - Image 1PS3 auctions on eBay - Image 2PS3 auctions on eBay - Image 3
PS3 auctions on eBay - Image 4PS3 auctions on eBay - Image 5PS3 auctions on eBay - Image 6

It all started earlier this month when it was deemed too early to have PS3s in eBay. After a while, this then resulted to eBay admin removing all PS3 and Wii pre-order listings on their site, much to the disappointment of many sellers. Now, it seems that eBay has had a sudden change of heart a mere week after the mass listing pull-outs, and many are left to wonder if there would be another about-face anytime soon.

That's right, the people over at eBay have finally made the decision to allow PS3 and Wii pre-orders to be posted on their site, but only if the sellers meet certain conditions. Though those conditions haven't been directly pointed out by the auction site's admin, it has been noticed that many of the allowed listings have the following going for them:
  • A Feedback of 50 or more
  • Feedback score must be 98% or above
  • Sellers may only list one system. They may list one PlayStation3 and one Nintendo Wii with a photo of the pre-order receipt for each system
  • Sellers must accept PayPal as their only payment option
  • Sellers must include a photo of the receipt in the listing
  • Buy It Now will NOT be allowed
  • One-day listings will NOT be allowed
