The Wii might be in unfamiliar territory, facing decline for the first time and all, but that doesn't mean that the console is down for the count. A survey from the gifting service, Lottay, reveals that there is twice more demand for the Wii than both its rival consoles combined. The DS, too, is making its own presence felt, pulling a certain blue hedgehog into its lineup. There's more where that came from, so let's get the rundown going.

Australians are tired of getting the short end of the gaming stick. The lack of an R18+ rating on the OFLC means that games with mature or adult content can easily be refused classification and subsequently banned. They're not taking that lying down. In fact, gamers Down Under are planning to march and hold a rally demanding the implementation of an R18+ rating.

Recently, when we hear "banned in Australia" the first thing that comes to mind is violence. The second game to be refused qualification in the region this year, however (Necrovision was the first), wasn't banned because of blood and guts but because of some good old-fashioned nudity.

The Attorney Generals of Australia finally agreed to release a discussion paper on whether or not an R18+ rating will be added to the currently existing ratings board. The paper will be made available over the Internet and will ask opinions on a number of issues relating to the introduction of the R18+ classification for video games. Hope it works. Fallout 3 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC) has only recently been cleared for release in Australia after the whole drugs debacle, but it looks like Bethesda's Pete Hines is still a bit peeved. According to the Fallout 3 product manager, censorship laws that differ from country to country are "frustrating". More from Hines in the full article.

Splatterhouse 2 fans have something to celebrate - well, at least for as long as they're in Australia. The Australian Classification Board, OFLC, has now released their classification for the said title, which is on its way to the Wii's Virtual Console for the region. Following the vein of many ninja-inspired titles, Alpha Denshi's Ninja Commando will finally get another chance to step into the spotlight as the Office of Film and Literature Classification recently rated this old-school title, hinting a possible release on the Virtual Console service in Australia.
