QuickJump QuickPeek 14 - Image 1

(Editor's Note: After the TGS, you'd think that things would go back to their "normal" pace in the gaming industry, but see, the gaming industry isn't all that "normal" to begin with. Harhar. As the Chesire Cat once told Alice: "We're all mad here." Now, if you might remember, our 13th Issue of QuickJump QuickPeek rolled out early, which means this edition might cover some news from last week which weren't included in the previous issue. Yes, it's not "normal" procedure as QuickPeek posts go. And we're saying that with a disembodied Chesire grin.)

A few days ago, we ended the previous TGS Special Edition of QuickJump QuickPeek with a series of open questions. Well, if Master Yoda had anything to say about it, it'd go somewhere along the lines of "Rumors lead to questions. Questions lead to TGS. TGS leads to answers. And answers... lead to more questions... and the eventual Hamill-tendency to scream out 'Nooooo!'"

This week though, it's anything but a miserable negative outburst. We're getting some answers all right. With us having the tendency of screaming out '"Yeeeees!" instead. How so? Let's see, shall we? M33's identity (i.e. Dark AleX, Mathiuelh, et. al.) revealed, Halo 3 week, Folding@Home's ongoing success, building anticipation for the Wii Zapper... Let's not get ahead of ourselves here though! Get busy with your mouse and start scrolling down!

Non-hippie, Oblivion-rocketeers Media Molecule made quite the impression on Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime. He said that - of Sony's Phil Harrison's title line-up in his keynote at the 2007 Game Developers Conference, LittleBigPlanet stole the show. What about the PlayStation Home? Well, that's something at the bottom of his list.

Media Molecule - Image 1

Nintendo America's president, who revealed the Nintendo Wii's successful drive for third-party game developer support at N'Gai Croal's exclusive interview, was quoted to have said at a latter part of the interview:

You know, I think the best thing shown by Phil Harrison was LittleBigPlanet. The group doing that game is fantastic, and I say that having seen the rag doll little product that they had created. ... That product, I think, is quite intriguing. I'm not sure how well it will do on the Sony platform, quite frankly, but I think that the product they showed was outstanding.

So it might not be surprising that the Japanese gaming giant, who always had the eye for creativity rather than going for the mainstream, figured that Sony should be given due credit for beating them to the punch. He said, and we quote, "Frankly, Nintendo wanted to do some business with those folks, but to give Phil some credit, he got there first."

So Rag Doll Kung Fu Mark Healey, Alex Evans and their army of 10 developers could have been working for gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto, instead of having to adapt their originally 2D, non-"age of aquarius" game for Sony's "We love it, but can we have more of the age of aquarius stuff?" antics. But they've taken the road most travelled, and that's probably what matters to most.

Sony PlayStation 3 versus Nintendo Wii - Image 1A couple of weeks ago, we ran an article titled "Seven reasons to love the PS3." This time, Insomniac head honcho Brian Hastings raises the bar and gives us 10 reasons why he believes the PS3 will yet win this generation's console war. These are his reasons in no particular order:

1. Home & LittleBigPlanet
2. Free online
3. 50 GB games
4. Casino Royale
5. HDMI
6. Standard HDD
7. The Wii fad will fade
8. PS3 has a major CPU advantage
9. PS2 still outselling 360
10. Something for everyone

In addition to those reasons, Hastings also took a swipe at the Wii, explaining that the communal factor will fizzle in time and at the end of the day, will be a non- issue. Insomniac Games is the creative force behind the marquee platform series Ratchet and Clank.
