Now don't go thinking this is another one of those depressing economic news - it's not. It's just your average depressing video game convention news, like E3. A press release just went out announcing that this year's Leipzig Games Convention has been canceled, but they will be holding a new event in its place called Games Convention Online.

So. What does the final TGS attendance tally read? Why... it's over nine thousaaaand!!! Oh, hell yeah, it's way over nine thousand indeed. CESA, the guys who organized the event, released the final number of attendees for this year's Tokyo Game Show. Compared to last year, TGS 2008 has gotten about a thousand more attendees, thus setting a new record for highest turnout in TGS history.

Although Sony's contender in this generation of consoles had a rocky start, the PlayStation 3 has been picking up some traction lately. Has it finally picked up its much needed momentum? Leipzig's over and the Tokyo Game Show won't be till October. But that doesn't mean there won't be any other conferences around to satisfy ever-curious gamers' appetites. And this time, we won't even have to fly overseas. The Austin Game Developers Conferences is coming up next, and they've added in a nice touch to this year's event.

This year's Games Convention at Leipzig was a sure fire success. And though some of you might not think that the same could be said about E3, GC 2009 has already been scheduled. Via press release, we find out that this year's event has set records above and beyond what GC 2007 had, and reception from the masses has definitely shown a good sign that the video games industry is booming more than it used to.

They know they've alienated their hardcore gamers, and they're more than set to make up for it. Cammie Dunaway of Nintendo has admitted that they were none too pleased with their presentation at E3. Recognizing that they may very well have turned off their own hardcore base, she reassures that Nintendo is taking steps to appease them. How exactly?

Apparently, getting to play as Ozzy Osbourne in Guitar Hero: World Tour wasn't cool enough for Activision. As an exclusive (for obvious reasons) to the Wii console, there'll be an additional mode called Mii Freestyle in which you can actually play as your very own Mii avatar.

Hideo Kojima, Koji Igarashi, and a handful of playable demos and new game announcements have all been announced as part of the Konami experience at Leipzig. More in the full article.
