Don't let his robes fool you - you may have more in common with Trinley Dorje than you think. He's only 24, listens to hip-hop on his iPod, and enjoys a good round violent video games. Yes, you read that right - this Buddhist leader enjoys good old-fashioned pwnage as much as the next guy. In fact, despite his disposition, Dorje believes that this type of games can even be therapeutic.

This we expected from Jack Thompson. But from the Gundam creator? This certainly brings a whole lot of disconnect to me. Yoshiyuki Tomino, creator of the most famous sci-fi giant robot (complete with his own posse) Gundam, believes that "video games are evil." Why? Because it's killing our planet. Among many other things, I can only suppose. I think he must have heard of the failed suicide/ arson episode in Japan because mommy took out the guy's Gundam collection to trash. Jack Thompson was already disbarred in Florida back in September of 2008. 10 months after Florida, that disbarment from the practice of law might just go federal. Judge Federico Moreno of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida has issued a court order to Thompson, directing him to explain why his Florida disbarment should not be extended to the federal level.

The July 4th SGC09 debate between anti-gamer, former Miami lawyer Jack Thompson and gamer/ attorney Mark Methenitis is all set and raring to go, despite the hump on the road yesterday morning, nearly resulting into Thompson's cancellation from the event. In an effort to make their nation violent videogame-free, 16 German Interior Ministers have moved to ask the Bundestag (the equivalent of parliament in Germany) for a total ban on violent video games. If approved, this won't be just your average banhammer - this is a national banhammer that even goes as far as prohibiting violent game development in the country.

After getting his video game and movie bill vetoed by Utah Governor Jon Huntsman last week, a frustrated Jack Thompson turns his attack to Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, who expressed concerns about the legality of HB 353. Thompson sent an email to Salt Lake Tribune, and a copy of it to GamePolitics, saying that Shurtleff is "dead meat" in the header.

Games may often get a bad rap in the court room, what with guys like Jack Thompson running around, but  this time it got some positive recognition from the UK House of Commons.

I bet Jack Thompson's not smiling now. His video game/movie bill may have been passed overwhelmingly by the Utah House and Senate, but it seems he didn't count on the Final Boss of the Utah Government.

Still trying to fight his seemingly endless battle against violent video games, Jack Thompson has now forwarded his concerns to the White House. The latest on the already disbarred ace attorney has him sending a letter to none other than President Barack Obama, asking him to give an outright ban on these 'murder simulators.' And that ban is absolute - not to be sold whether you're a kid, a tween, an adolescent, or even an adult on your 50s! He wants violent games to be totally wiped off the map!

It seems that New Zealand has its own game-hating Jack Thompson counterpart. Get a load of New Zealand Chief Censor Bill Hastings, who says parents who purchase violent video games for their children should be prosecuted. More in the full article.
