Nintendo Wii underground updates - Image 1In the wake of homebrew developer Waninkoko's Region Changer, the homebrew community revolving around the Nintendo Wii turned to a classic Mexican standoff. On one side, there's Marcan and Bushing calling developer Waninkoko "irresponsibile" regarding the questionable release of a semi-bricking homebrew process. On the other is Waninkoko and allies, who believe that lack of warning was an honest mistake, and the irresponsibility is an oversight. Get to the full story for more.

Bushing discovers exploit that allows ISOs to run on unmodified Wiis, writes Nintendo - Image 1Sure, Bushing may be one of the two minds behind the Twilight Hack, but he's no robber and he'd rather go with a clear conscience. The Team Twiizer member recently unearthed an exploit within the Nintendo Wii's system software, which according to him, could be used to load pirated Wii software on unmodified Nintendo Wiis. What does that mean? ISO loaders, people. That and a little more at the full story.

Wii homebrew developments reveal SD Card DOL loader - Image 1In the scene of executing unsigned code on the Nintendo Wii, parties behind the recent exploits on Nintendo's next-gen console have continued to make slow but steady progress. The latest update from homebrew insider brakken, who you'll remember for his take of the WiiLi content-stealing deal, pits an SD Card DOL Loader by DDF which is exactly how you'd imagine an SDLoader for GameCube would work. But this one's for the Wii. Check out the full article.

An NTSC/PAL region map - Image 1Not exactly a modchip update, but pretty close: There is word going around that team SYNDiCATE is soon releasing an NTSC to PAL Patcher tool for the Wii. As its name suggests, it patches NTSC games into a format playable on PAL Wiis, and should work fine with modchip-equipped Wiis (can you say backup discs?).

And why would people want this? Given that the Wii's region-locked, we're sure European owners may want their copy of Super Paper Mario as early as April 9 (the US release date). Or for the resident anime otaku, this means a chance for you to get an early copy of the likes of One Piece or Detective Conan for your gaijin Wii - both titles are currently set for a Japan launch. Then there's also the off-chance you may have gotten a Wii modchip with no inter-region support, but that's another story.

The tool is currently at version 1.1, and allows patching from NTSC-U/J to PAL (Europe), and NTSC-J (Japan) to NTSC-U (USA), and is said to work with 70% of the games in the market, though titles like Cooking Mama (NTSC-J to PAL) and Trauma Center (NTSC-U to PAL) reportedly don't work.
