Engine Software - Image 1The development studio Engine Software - of such games like the DS version of Puzzle Quest and Marvel Trading Card Game - has announced that they've been licensed by Nintendo of America as an official Wii developer, marking their seventh consecutive license from Nintendo.

Engine Software has developed games for the DS, Game Cube, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Color, the original Gameboy and the Super Nintendo. As of yet they don't have any games in development for the Wii but they're currently looking into possibilities for retail and digitally-distributed games for the platform.

Right now the studio plans to translate some of its apps for the Wii, like their Music & Sound Replayer middleware for the Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS.

Mudkip Pokemon - Image 1More E For All good news: it looks like Pokemon fans are in for a treat, since an unnamed developer for the Pokemon games disclosed that there's a new Pokemon title still under wraps for now. The good news? Its going to be an RPG for the Wii. It's not yet known if this will be a sequel to the Pokemon Battle Revolution, so do check this space for more info.

The same anonymous developer also mentioned the reason why there's no Pokemon role-playing title for the Nintendo Wii console recently: its because Nintendo has decided to maximize the "pokemon-trading" aspect afforded by handheld consoles, such as the Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance. The trend is going to change if the rumor is true, so Wii owners should expect a new "Catch 'em all!" series on their Wii soon.

Certainly an interesting update. Stay tuned for more updates! We might actually already be seeing the early beginnings of the eventual Pokemon Farm.

Fire Emblem's Lyndis as Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Image 1The Smash Bros. Dojo website has just been updated and we learned that the beautiful and deadly Lyndis will be available as an Assist Trophy character in the upcoming fighting game Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii.

It was reported previously that the title will become available in North America some time this December. Anyway, Lyndis or Lyn came from the video game Fire Emblem, released on the GameBoy Advance (GBA).

She holds a special place in the franchise because she is actually the first female main character introduced since the Famicom's Fire Emblem Gaiden. She is also the only one who can draw the in-game legendary sword Mani Katti.

Anyway, Lyn will be very useful in Super Smash Bros. Brawl because of her excellent sword knowledge. Unlike other assist characters whose attacks seem to go rather wayward, Lyn is calculating. She crouches first, disappears from sight, and then delivers a deadly slash to your enemy.

A little tip on our part, you can grab on to your enemies before asking Lyndis to deliver a devastating blow for more damage.

Wii Love Golf - Image 1

Camelot, makers of classic, timeless titles such as Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, and the beloved RPG experience on the Gameboy Advance, Golden Sun, has made its comeback on Nintendo's motion-tracking console of gaming heaven with their latest golf title Wii Love Golf. It's a golden homecoming for the company that not only has a lot of quirky sports titles underneath its belt, but also the mind behind some of the most endearing games to date.

In this scan update (courtesy of the good folks over at Famitsu, of course) we see that Wii Love Golf is definitely shaping up nicely, with Camelot's trademark cutesy and superdeformed take on the hole-sinking sport intact and in action. Like many of the other golf titles out there, the player uses the Wiimote to aim, swing, and achieve ultimate course dominance. The graphics are cute, the colors are vibrant - Camelot's certainly sticking to what it knows and does best with this title, and that's not a bad thing at all.

Of course, while we appreciate another golf game for the Wii, here's also hoping that Camelot sees the opportunity to cater to a new breed of fans - maybe a Mario Tennis or Golden Sun sequel? Surely that's not too much to ask, is it? Fingers crossed!

Updates as we get them, so enjoy the scan!

The Gameboy - Image 1 In a recent interview by GameDaily.biz, George Harrison talks about the Game Boy and WiiWare. GameDaily.biz hasn't published the whole interview yet though so there's still some more coming.

But one thing to note in the interview is mention of the Game Boy's "retirement." Harrison commented in an interview during E3 that "this year [...] you really won't see much push against Game Boy itself [...] It's hard to say in the future if we will ever bring back the Game Boy trademark." With the DS so popular, attention was slowly diverted away from the Game Boy and gamers aren't really clamoring for new games on the handheld so there isn't much call for it to make a comeback.

The DS can be seen as a natural evolution of the Game Boy, and in many ways it is. Part of the reason that the DS wasn't given the same name was that Nintendo President Satoru Iwata wanted to reach a new audience with the DS's new approach to handheld gaming. Harrison puts it to us in this way:

It was a big risk for us to actually pass on it and call the new product the Nintendo DS, but it was part of Mr. Iwata's philosophy that if we're going to make a radical difference and try to reach a new audience, then we have to change the name... We had to make a break even though we had one of the greatest trademarks in the history of the industry.

And it really is one of the gaming industry's prodigies. The Gameboy Color released in 1998 it had already sold 49 million units by the end 2004 and the Gameboy Advance released in 2001 sold 75 million by June of 2006. The very first Game Boy sold 70 million units worldwide.

But really, it's not the Game Boy that's retiring, just its name. You have the DS anyway, why settle for one screen when you can have two? Besides, there's always emulators. Always look forward.

On a completely unrelated note but from the same interview, Harrison said that Nintendo's WiiWare might still make it to the market before the end of 2007. He furthers that it all really depends on the game developers. Since they recently just released the technology, some developers haven't even started.
