Mario as a wrestler? - Image 1THQ recently inked an agreement with Nintendo of America and filed it with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), granting THQ the rights to "use certain of Nintendo's intellectual property to develop, have developed, have manufactured, advertise, market and sell video game software for play on Wii until October 13, 2009 in all countries within the Western Hemisphere."

According to a representative from THQ, there's nothing more to the deal other than renewing agreements with hardware manufacturers the company develops games for. "It's just a standard procedure and is not indicative of any new arrangements," said the rep. The intellectual property mentioned is referring to things like the Nintendo seal.

It won't come as a surprise if THQ actually decides to use Nintendo IP, since other developers have done some work under Nintendo's publishing arm. We've got Capcom's big Zelda: The Minish Cap on GBA, Square Enix' Mario Hoops 3-on-3 on DS, and other similar collaborations like Sega and Nintendo's Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games for both Wii and DS. Next thing we need is Mario MX for some rally racing action, or WWE Smackdown! Here Comes the Mario. Kidding.

The rise was attributed to the September 25 release of Bungie Studios' Halo 3, published by Microsoft. Over all, the game industry was reported to have met a 96% increase in total sales from US$ 66.2 million to US$ 129.7 million, year on year.

The revenue hit a high of 244% from US$ 13 million in September last year to US$ 44.7 million in September this year.

With it, console software sales rose 79% year-on-year, from US$ 27.8 million to US$ 49.9 million in revenue. Handhelds in contrast performed in the lowest margins, though both software and hardware revenue increased according to NPD's numbers.

Handhelds sold in the nation hiked up 29% from US$ 9 million in September last year to US$ 11.7 million this year, while handheld video games rose by a slim 2% from last year - US$ 9.5 million to US$ 9.7 million. The hardware sales ranked by most unit sales for the month of September stood as:

Fire Emblem's Lyndis as Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Image 1The Smash Bros. Dojo website has just been updated and we learned that the beautiful and deadly Lyndis will be available as an Assist Trophy character in the upcoming fighting game Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii.

It was reported previously that the title will become available in North America some time this December. Anyway, Lyndis or Lyn came from the video game Fire Emblem, released on the GameBoy Advance (GBA).

She holds a special place in the franchise because she is actually the first female main character introduced since the Famicom's Fire Emblem Gaiden. She is also the only one who can draw the in-game legendary sword Mani Katti.

Anyway, Lyn will be very useful in Super Smash Bros. Brawl because of her excellent sword knowledge. Unlike other assist characters whose attacks seem to go rather wayward, Lyn is calculating. She crouches first, disappears from sight, and then delivers a deadly slash to your enemy.

A little tip on our part, you can grab on to your enemies before asking Lyndis to deliver a devastating blow for more damage.
