It's been a while since we heard from GeeXboX, but it seems the wait was well worth it. In case you missed the previous release, GeeXboX is a media center prototype for the Wii. This build is based on the recently released Whiite-Linux system, which adds a significant number of features to the program, including networking and USB support. Details in the full article.Download: GeeXboX v0.1alpha0 |

This development library isn't strictly Wiibrew, but it's a mighty useful tool that homebrew developers for other platforms out there might enjoy. WiiRemoteJ is a library that allows your computer to interact with the Wiimote and Balance Board through Bluetooth, with Java as the medium. If the PlayStation 3 could do it, so could the now open Nintendo Wii - with a little ingenuity, we care to add. The GC-Linux Team has released a major update to the Wii Linux project, and now the specially crafted Linux flavor distro is loaded with new applications and features that Linux whizzes will definitely appreciate as soon as they try it out. But be careful: the installation of Debian etch 4.0 and Whiite 0.1 requires a little more work than usual. That and more at the full story.Download: Debian etch v4.0 and Whiite v0.1 |

Now we've seen several homebrew applications come out that pairs up PCs and Wiimotes, but here's one that uses the Wii Balance Board. Two grad students traverse World of Warcraft's Azeroth using the Board. Now that's something that can really catch on. Watch a video of the Board in action in the full article. |

If you're a programmer, you might take an interest in this new Java API, WiiuseJ. It's a simple and lightweight API that lets you write Java programs that can interface with the Wiimote as well as the Nunchuck. Since it's a Java library, it will let you write programs independent of the console itself. Neat, eh?
