i wonder what they would say now....
Now what Nintendo fanboys?! Who stole who?! Speak louder I can't hear you!
Nintendo brought it to consoles. Sony wouldn't have done it if they hadn't seen Nintendo do it first and get such a positive reaction. Kutaragi or Hirai even called it a gimmick. It's still innovative because the technology is new to console gaming. Look up the definition. And who really cares if Sony copied anyway?
This article rocks for the sole reason that it has an old ZDtv clip with Kate Botello and Adam Sessler(with hair)
dont say it was sonys idea, did you even read the article? Pelican made the controller but they were probably inovated by the microsoft sidewinder....
so i guess microsoft came up with the idea first......oh forget it! MOTION SENCORING FOR ALL! LOL
Sony has had that SAME unoriginal design for a controller for 3 generations now. The boomerang controller was stupid looking, but hell, at least it was a change. When i saw that they reverted AGAIN back to their old controller, i was shocked. And about the motion thing, no one copied anyone, but it "could" have been realized by Sony, that it might just be the right time for people to accept this as a standard in controllers. I am not a "fanboy" of any of these systems, hell, when/if the price goes down in PS3's, i'll probably buy one regardless of the controller. The controller should be treated like a pet peeve, not the "ALMIGHTY DECISION" on whether or not to buy the system itself. If i were you, i'd wait for that price drop too.
I have said this time and time again, THE NINTENDO WII CONTROLLER IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN THE DUAL SCHOCK 3! the way you controller games with both are completely different. Nintendo copied no one, and Sony copied no one.
if you think about it, this controller will fail again. There's a reason why it didnt catch on back in 1999 besides being from 3rd party. Who copied who? doesnt even matter now Sony fanboys. The real question here: is PS3 going to succeed with that controller? Once people realize that the tilt function is really limiting, why would they want spend $600 when Nintendo's controller (and system)is cheaper AND can do so much more?
hehe, I love the reaction from Sony fanboys
"HA! See! Sony didnt copy Ninty! They are actually using 8 year old tech in their next gen consoles so THERE! We win!"
:D
Awsome!
sony announced it in 2003 and they have a patten so....
It's about time someone shut Nintendo up. All I ever hear is how innovative nintendo is and how they come up with all the new tech before anyone else but it's all crap! Also, I remember Kutaragi talking about PS3 bringing gaming to the 4th demension in 2005's E3 and I've also heard Sony reps talk this E3 about how the new controller brings a new Dimension to gaming... so it's possible that Sony had this controller (whit motion sensor tech) made even before 2005's E3 and just didn't want to reveal it incase other companies (cough, microsoft) used the same tech, it would eb something that gave them an edge. All of this is before Nintendo even hinted at what they're controller would do.
Microsoft and Sony had the idea before Nintendo...
Sony had a patent 4 years ago... And the controller was the 'original' idea for the PS2's Dual Shock 2 Controller...
So nintendo can go eat *****... stupid fools...
They need to get over it.. there is totally different technologies involved in the Wiimote and the Dual Shock 3.
The wii can't do more then ps3 just becuse it has a difrent controll. If ps3 now will have linux and be able to have homebrew then you can play nintendos old game for free for exampel. And like in the psp you will have a webbrowser (that I think will be fast as on the pc if not faster), music, movie (HD movie even), online updates for more things that will get to it later. Oh and it will also have eaytoy and that strange card thing yeah and more things. Oh and the psp and ps3 will also have many nice funtions togeter.
So do you realy think a control that you dance whit will give it some many more funtions, it will only give you a difrent style of playing a game (and wristed ankel).
they copied them by putting it in the next gen cosole...durrrrrrr, but if u mean it that way than your right sony copied microsofts sidewinder and pelican's crap version.
But was that an earlier Verison on Adam Seesler? OMG he was a bigger douche even then...
now of course you are all forgetting the fact this this is third party and sony could never come up with something as smart as this because they are uninnovitive.
also, this is so old, nintendo doesnt look at other companies ***** for ideas, they come up with their own, and it wasnt copied, although it may seem, they never knew about the origional idea.
also, the last post really makes me sad and shows the stupidity of fanboys, you sir are clearly an idiot because the controller actually CAN do more than the dual shock, everything you mentioned is console hardware related, not freaking dual shock hardware related. also, the motion sensing will be not be utilized very much, or every used for a full game, maybe mini games, and the sad fact also that the ds3 controller wont even have rumble. the wiimote will have rumble, more motion sensing abilities, a speaker to add more immersion so like you can hear the ball or whatever hit your racket or whatever right up close, and also, nobody needs all that other crap sony has put into the ps3. ITS A GAMING CONSOLE NOT A ****** MULTIMEDIA PLAYER. SONY, GET OVER YOUR SELF. STOP MAKING CRAPPY CONSOLES AND GAMES.
lol

If sony had planned to use the motion sensing techonology in their controller for the PS3, then why did they show the boomerang controller for over a year. I think its funny how sony heard the reaction from gamers saying how stupid it looked and they said they were going to redesign the controller and then they come out with a dualshock controller with a little bit of motion sensing. They must have some creative people on that design team. Whether or not they copied Nintendo really doesnt matter. The dominant controller will show once the systems are released but with sony already copying Xbox Live, I wouldn't be suprised. Way to go next gen Sony.
Ok. Here's the deal. Everyone says how Sony patented it a long time ago, well Nintendo patented it even longer ago.
Benchmark: Fanboys: 0 Me: 1
Nintendo is still innovative. All these other controllers are basically just tilt (Kind of like Warioware Twisted, shame on you Nintendo), with the motion sensor stuck on the front of them, a la PS3. These kind of suck, which is why the PS3 answer to motion sensor is:
A) More of a takeoff on the Wavebird and PC than the Wii
B) Gimmicky
Benchmark: Fanboys: 0 Me: 3
Nintendo on the other hand has completely redesigned the motion sensor idea (making it of cetral focus instead of abitrarily sticking it on), so really it's not fair to say that Nintendo is copying anyone. I'm not a huge fan of Nintendo, if fact I would say I'm more of a PS fan than Nintendo, but these are all just undeniable proofs. You disappointed me, Sony. I'm going to go cry now.
Final Benchmark: Fanboys: 0 Me: 4
Fine development companies that suck now: 3
Quit it with these bull***** comparison articles. They're always biased or responsible for a flame war.
Who cares e3 is over its not like nintendo and sony will fight over this and have a war. The dualshock and wii are completely different. and if we find about the pelican dualshock now, why are people accusing nintendo that they stole it. thay most likely never knew about the pelican until probably now. The wiimote imo is very creative making the possibilities almost limitless for gameplay. It makes me mad at both nintendo and sony fanboys going at each other just to say whos copying who. Lets just give up the copying with sony and nintendo and focus on the real problem here. The price of the ps3
I know you guys don't like flame wars, but guess what? They help us be more patinate about gameing and keeps the interests in them alive. In return each company tries to be better than other to prove to be best, and in the end we benefit by getting better games and hardware. They earn more money, so everybody wins!
"They help us be more patinate about gameing and keeps the interests in them alive."
They also help put you one step farther from ever getting laid. :D
To me, both controllers are very different. It isn't a matter of who copied who. If everyone aruged that about everything, nothing would be invented. I believe that Yarton was pretty moronic to say that Sony copied Nintendo. I definetly take both sides of this issue.
Fanboys fighting Fanboys....
Cant we all just get along......
Every console is going to have its own great exclusive games.
Some may be more innovative than others, but each console will have its own great games...
360 - Gears of War....Halo3
PS3 - Metal Gear Solid 4....Grand Turismo
Wii - Smash Bros Brawl....Zelda-Twilight Princess
The times of one completely dominate company is in the past.
Embrace the future, even better things are yet to come.
the guy who posted this is a fanboy, controllers are completely different, wii mote has better control, ps3 has alot less, they use different tech too, sony only copied nintendo by stealing their idea of introducing motion control to consoles, sony did crappy because it was tacked on at the last minute, nintendo better because it is advanced tech and was thought out over time instead of a week, also neither company invented not one of the two different techs,
ps the tech found in ps3 controller are used for games like kirby tilt and tumble for gameboy colour, lol!!!
360 - Gears of War(idk but looks like it will be fun....)
Halo3(awsome)
PS3 - Metal Gear Solid 4(boring)....
Grand Turismo(almost not borring)
Wii - Smash Bros Brawl
(idk, but i loved smash bros on 64)....
Zelda-Twilight Princess (meh not a zelda fan)
am a playstation fan but i think sony didnt actually think about this tech till they saw nintendos wii-mote and how ppl were reacting to it, if they did know about the tech they could have implemented it into the psp that way there would be no need for the analog stick. but i think thats going to be the new feature and the hdd in the next psp i guess.
i love the thought of millions of playstation fanboys going out of their way to prove that sony is innovative.
nothing out of sony has ever been innovative, its all been imitation.
"But sony Patented it first!!!"
and? that was the tech, and they never said it was intended for the playstation.
"But Sony is using different tech! its not copying!"
you are correct, they are using different tech, and thus they are not copying the nintendo HARDWARE. what is debated here is if sony was influenced by the Nintendo Wii to put Motion Sensing in their controller.
and take into account that developers dident even know about the motion sensing until the last minnute before E3 and you can kinda see it was not concieved in the timeframe before the nintendo announcement.
i would respect sony more, if they just stopped all this childish bull***** and just came out and said "Yes, we saw the Wiimote and thought it was badass... and we wanted some of that in our console."
would anyone think any less of them for saying that? no. would we still be talking about this if they said that? no.
but sony is a company based entirely on Marketing.

Stop playing dumb Sony fangirls, I have a PS2 and PSone and I know Sony's ideas all came from Nintendo. Remember Rumble Feature anyone? (copied from nintendo,) (Yes, Nintendo was first) Wait, lets compare the PS12&3 controller to SNES controller. (Wait, not a whole copied controller because they added shapes on the buttons and added extra shoulder buttons) Hold On, Nintendo 64 come's to the seen with a Analog joystick and somehow Sony gets it too. (Dual Shock 1&2) Then out comes the Wavebird wireless controller (Nintedno too by the way) and now PS3 and Xbox 360 have it. PS3 is now also coping Xbox live online service.
Sony always copies, to steal the thunder away from another system to make you buy their system. Because if their system has the best of both worlds (Xbox360 & Nintendo Wii), you'll buy their system.
I believe its how they make alot of money.
