The NPD Group has released a compiled list of the top five best-selling games for each of the consoles. The report tracks sales data from the start of this year all the way up until August. Wondering which games made it to the lists? I'm sure some of you won't be surprised to see this or that title part of the list. Lots of acronym-friendly games chucked in, of course!

A new monthly report is in town, and it's a collaborative effort between the top three firms that track sales in the video game industry. North America's NPD Group, UK's Chart Track, and Japan's Enterbrain are now to come up with joint monthly reports. And with their powers combined... it's the Top Global Markets Report! Oooh, sounds like a golden idea! And guess what? The first report has already been published. Wanna see? Get a hold of the top five worldwide best-selling games of 2008 so far!

The UK once again shows its love for anything Mario: Super Smash Bros. Brawl (which was only released on the region by the tail end of last month) is still smashing on top of the charts, and former hotshots Metal Gear Solid 4 and Grand Theft Auto IV are nowhere to be found on top 10. One big feature that the fans love about Super Smash Bros. Brawl is its sheer number of selectable characters. This week on the UK software charts, Nintendo reigns supreme once again as Super Smash Bros. Brawl debuts on top of the list. Following it at second is fellow upstart Battlefield: Bad Company. Former leaders have been knocked off the top echelon, but some old favorites have re-entered the elite list. Details after the jump.

Nintendo of Europe has released the list of Wii and Nintendo DS video games which should be coming out this summer. At the top of the list is Super Smash Bros. Brawl which will be coming out on June 27 and both versions of DS game Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness) which have been dated for a July 4 launch. Nintendo Australia has recently sent word that their region's copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be arriving by next month. It may still be a long wait, but at least we know exactly when it's expected to his the shelves. The exact date is available in the full article.

Lazard Capital analyst Colin Sebastian says March was a good month for the software scene, and he predicts a rise of 35 percent in total sales. Games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl. and Army of Two have stepped up big, and things could only get better from here. Full story after the jump.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl director Masahiro Sakurai has just announced that the Smash Bros. Dojo!! website will no longer be receiving updates. Sakurai's parting letter also shares some interesting factoids regarding Dojo, which you can view over in the full article.
