Good news, Wii fans! Nintendo has made the Wii Internet Channel available for free from now on! Yep, no more of that 500 Wii Points requirement (US$ 5). Free. Free. Free.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has more or less confirmed that Wii owners outside Japan will also get to experience the newly-launched Wii video streaming service. He also added that the service's original Japanese programming may be included in the service's international versions.

Nintendo has released the latest Wii Firmware Update. To the shock and disdain of the Wiibrew community, the update seems to contain measures that block the use of homebrew, including preventing new installations of the Homebrew Channel.
