WWE Smackdown - Image 1Now that WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw (by THQ for the PS3, PS2, PSP Xbox 360, Wii, DS) is nearing its November 13 release, wrestling game fans have a lot of questions in their heads, specifically about how this year's installment of Smackdown Vs. Raw will turn out on the next-gen consoles.

One of the biggest issues for Smackdown 2008 is the fact that the character roster is just not as updated compared to other sports games with yearly installments, such as the Madden franchise.

WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 - Image 1

THQ's WWE Smackdown vs. Raw videogame series has always been about reinventing itself for the next generation, and with its latest incarnation, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 for the Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation Portable, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS - they're taking things to the next level. This is with the game's two new additional modes - Tournament and Hall of Fame mode - and we get acquainted with them in this update.

Let's start off with Tournament Mode. Tournament Mode, just like what it says, lets you hold massive contests of strength, power and endurance with your favorite WWE Superstars. Tournament Mode can be broken down into two main tournament types - King of the Ring and Beat The Clock Sprint. The King of the Ring, a long-time legendary tradition of deciding who gets to reign supreme in WWE, pits you against fifteen other wrestlers in a full-on brawl - who survives gets all the spoils.

Beat The Clock Sprint is a little different, as it puts emphasis on speed rather than endurance. A new kind of matchup featured in recent airings of Smackdown and RAW, Beat The Clock Sprint awards the wrestler who can defeat his opponent at the quickest time possible. So no long windups here, just full-powered beatings on the get-go.

Of course, should players want more customization with their tournaments, Tournament Mode also allows the creation of your very own tournament type, from the participants to the stipulations. Awesome.

Now for Hall of Fame Mode. Think of a list of challenges, each one seemingly more insurmountable and impossible than the other, and you've got a good idea on what Hall of Fame Mode really is. It doesn't help that each challenge is tailored after legendary moments in WWE history - from Shawn Michaels outlasting 29 other men in a Royal Rumble match, to the Undertaker giving Mankind the beating of his life in Hell in a Cell.

Completing these challenges will result in your own Superstar rising through the ranks, from mere jobber to Hall of Famer.

Definitely something to get excited about with WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008. Updates as we get them, so keep it locked right here!

Triple H, one of the Superstars in THQ's WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 - Image 1

If you already fancy yourself a master of Yukes' and THQ's WWE Smackdown vs. Raw series, this year's version of the long-running wrestling video game franchise promises to raise the gameplay to a whole new level with the addition of the new Fighting Style system introduced in WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008.

It was already mentioned previously by the developers from Yukes that eight new Fighting Styles will be included in this year's build of the game, doing away with the previous Clean and Dirty fighting styles. The different Fighting Styles basically dictate how your Superstar moves around the squared circle and what kind of tactics he or she usually employs to win the match.

In addition, each Superstar is granted both a primary and secondary ability depending on what Fighting Style your character has. The basic archetypes such as the Brawler and the Dirty player are very well reflected in the type of moves he or she has access to.

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 is set to be released this November 13 and will be available for the Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii and DS platforms.

Check out the details on some of the Fighting Styles we have right after the jump!

For those of you expecting that Yuke's has the same old tricks up its sleeves in its latest installment of the WWE video game franchise, then you'll be pleasantly surprised that it's thrown out the old and came up with something completely new.

We're talking about the Main Event mode available for THQ's WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 for the Nintendo Wii. The developers basically done away with the old career and general manager mode from the previous games and focused everything on raising one Superstar of your choice to reach the top of his chosen WWE brand.

You can set up matches via a mobile phone available in the locker room and you can basically choose whether your chosen Superstar will play clean or learn to fight dirty. Both sides have their pros and their cons, of course, but it's really up to you how you want to raise your pet Superstar.

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 will be shipping to stores this November 19 and will be available on the Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, PSP, Nintendo Wii, and DS. Enjoy the video and make sure to keep coming back for more updates we have on this great slobber knocker of a game.

Sneak peek at WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 career modes - Image 1

Yuke's has a lot in store for WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 (PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360) solo play mode, but in order outdo the previous installment, they had to take a few things out. Season, the previous career mode, is now gone, nada, kaput. In place of that is SvR 2008's new 24/7 and Main Event modes, depending on what platform you play the game on.

On PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, 24/7 will be served. This game mode takes both the Season and General Manager mode into one lengthy brawl in a quest to become a legend in wrestling. You will no longer have to choose between the two, because in this mode, you can take on both roles and be more than just a champion of the ring.

Publisher THQ says that 24/7 grants players full control over their Superstars' progress. It's comprehensive enough that players can set a match, spin a story, and soon fully manage the every day activities of the wrestling stars. Autograph signing, charities, and even movie cameos - all this you can set for your own Superstars to achieve the goal of luring fans toward your fold and far from the competition's side.
