Wii Sports Tennis screen - Image 1If you've been itching for some tennis action in the comforts of your living room, then look no further because Top Spin Tennis is coming to the Nintendo Wii. Senior Producer Jean-Yves Patay from game developer PAM promised that the game will have more than Wii Sports' tennis had to offer.

"There'll be no big heads and no players without legs," he told CVG. Aside from that, Top Spin Tennis will also focus on the actual tennis experience than being a tech demo of the Wii's motion sensing capabilities.

Patay stressed out that they're offering "a real tennis game." Unlike his six year old son who can be satisfied with waving a Wiimote around to see his avatar on screen playing tennis, Patay believes that "hardcore" gamers want precise movements. "In Top Spin, you will have to move your character and do different swings," he continued.

2k Sports logo - Image 1Looks like Wii Sports is getting a contender, as 2K Sports announces that they're working on a Wii-fied port of their Top Spin Tennis game. And as you've guessed, it will make full use of the Wiimote's motion sensors. The Nunchuck will be used to move your player and to aim, while the Wiimote is used as the racquet. Players can also use the Wiimote to control the power and quality of their shots.

Top Spin Tennis is expected to carry several modes, including singles, doubles, mixed and non-mixed matches, exhibition, tournament, and party games. The game is also expected to carry four difficulty settings, and will include ten international venues to hold the matches in.

Top Spin Tennis is further reported to support up to four players in multiplayer mode, with 12 licensed tennis stars and 10 original characters rounding out its character select roster. 2K boss Christoph Hartmann had this to say regarding the upcoming title:

We are excited to bring our popular Top Spin series to the Wii. Given the Wii's unique controllers and the fun family-oriented gameplay, Top Spin Tennis effectively bridges the gap between a sports and a party game.

Top Spin Tennis for the Wii is currently scheduled for a spring release next year (2008).
