Just when we thought he couldn't get any faster, he starts messing with physics to do just that. Sonic's back in action on the Nintendo Wii with Sega's Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, and we get to see him screw around with a certain planet's gravitational pull to win in this trailer straight from TGS. Somewhat cheesy soundtrack aside, the gameplay is looking very WipeOut-ish, with the futuristic-themed tracks just zooming past at breakneck speed. We also get to see some actual Gravity Control in action, with the walls of the track becoming the player's very own shortcut. Sneaky? Probably. Underhanded? Definitely. Awesome? Oh, yes. Embed's below, you know what to do. Enjoy! |

Trust Sonic and his speedster friends to find even more ways to see not only who can go at it the fastest, but in the most stylish way possible as well - and we see all that terminal velocity-showboating in this screenshot update of Sega's Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity for the Nintendo Wii. In these screenshots, we get a gander at how the blue hedgehog and his pals are going to take flight in style. Style being, hanging off your flying vehicle of choice with one arm or foot, all the while rocketing through a futuristic racetrack filled with all sorts of dangerous traps and obstacles. Talk about courting danger at high speeds! The graphics are looking very solid here, with a nice, streamlined look to things. The environments look gorgeous, with a visual style that certainly screams the neon-streaked vision of the racing future we've come to connect with the genre. Here's to hoping that the shortcuts promised are made to be challenging alternate routes to the finish line, rather than a mere corner-skip here and there. After all, if they're not challenging, they'll just be too easy to abuse, right? Updates about Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity as they happen. Enjoy the screenshots! |

The last time we heard about Sonic's next-gen racing title for the Nintendo Wii, Sega's Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, we got an eyeful of some very sweet eye-candy that pretty much tells us that we're going to be in for a harder and faster ride than its predecessor ever gave us. Now, we get you some much-needed info that talks about what's new with the blue hedgehog this time around, and from what it tells us, we're not just going to mess with speed, but with gravity as well. Yes, you heard that right. Not only will Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity be faster and harder than ever before, but it will also give players the ability to muck around with the current track's gravity with a simple press of a button. By performing tricks and excelling in technical challenges, players will be able to gain Gravity Points - and it's these points that let you enter a zero-gravity environment that lets Sonic (or any other of his fellow racing competitors) perform some very neat and very awesome feats. These feats are called Gravity Control and Gravity Dive. Gravity Control lets the player change the law of gravity in a track - which means any surface of the track, be it the roof or the walls, can become the actual track itself. This then gives the player an enormous advantage over the other racers, as some of the tracks have walls that offer shortcuts and alternative pathways. Gravity Dive is a bit more special, and just a little bit cooler. Gravity Dive creates the ultimate speed boost by taking advantage of a Black Hole's vacuum. Needless to say, it makes the track an obstacle course that only you can control, with you having the ability to grind cars and other debris in mid-air for extra awesome and extra speed. That's not all, though. Besides featuring 18 characters to choose from, Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity also gives the player the ability to upgrade his or her own ride, as well as an option to switch up vehicles in mid-race. So whatever the track environment, players will be prepared to tear it up and leave the competition in the dust. Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity is definitely looking good - here's hoping the developers give it the amount of polish it deserves come its release date of Winter 2008. To see the game in action, you can check out the title's official website at the read link below. |

Sonic and his sound barrier-busting friends are at it again, and this time they're sliding their way into your Wii in style with this first-ever screenshot update of Sega's Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. Behold as the blue hedgehog and his buddies rip the airspace around them up into ribbons, with the help of their wicked-looking rides. Looking at the screenshots, it seems that it's not just the usual hoverboard race - as one of the images captured shows a particular red Echidna by the name of Knuckles cruising his way in a hover motorcycle-type dealie. This begs the question: will there be other vehicle types selectable in the game, or is it merely a specific character quirk? While hoverboards themselves are already awesome enough, different vehicles certainly mix it up some, and adds to the replay value. Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity is pencilled in to grab the checkered flag next year. Enjoy the eye candy! The other screenshots after the jump! |
