Koei's Samurai Warriors Katana finally got introduced in a smashing media event in a demo held in Kyoto, Japan. The media event lasted for two days (September 29 to 30) and was carried out with the whole shebang: old-school Japan settings, staff in traditional costumes, and of course, hands-on demos of the game. Game media blow-outs like this one makes us wish we live in Japan. Capcom's Devil Kings 2: Heroes Gaiden (also known as Basara 2: Heroes in Japan) also made an appearance, with hands-on playable demos as well. It's not the surprising, given that Devil Kings 2 is using more or less the same game model as the Dynasty Warriors franchise This new Samurai Warriors title is unique compared to its predecessors since it employs a first person perspective, using the Wiimote's motion sensor to hack and slash your way through hordes of soldiers. The game is already out in Japan, with a December 3 release in the US Check out the Read link for more pictures! |

Koei's Samurai Warriors Katana puts you in the shoes of a general fighting and leading troops across a battlefield much like older Dynasty/Samurai Warriors games. Unlike its forefathers, which were played in a three-fourths view, this game is an FPS.
Your main character will be getting one melee and ranged weapon to fight off the hordes of enemies that come towards you. The weapons range from the Katana as seen in the video to spears, hammers, guns, and even a lethal yo-yo. Single attacks are performed by simply pressing a button while swinging the Wiimote allows you to attack multiple enemies. This video shows off the combat system of the game as well as the context specific super move. This is a solid game that has already captured the attention of many Wii gamers. In case you're interested in picking this game up it is already out in Japan and is currently slated for a December 3 release in the U.S. |

Whoever came up with turning Koei's signature hack-and-slash style into first-person utilizing Wii's motion sensing capabilities is a genius. What more can we ask for? It definitely sounds more action packed, and actually moving your arms to wield a weapon is more promising than pressing two buttons the entire game. We're talking about Samurai Warriors Katana, if it wasn't obvious enough.
Producer Hisashi Koinuma's got a lot to be happy about with the latest Samurai Warriors game, and it shows. In the video below, Koinuma introduces everyone to the features SW: Katana has to offer. For starters, there will be short and long range weapons, both utilizing the Wiimote and Nunchuk. Another cool thing is how horses will be controlled using both hands, just like the real deal. Words don't justify FPS hack-and-slash goodness, so just check out this vid:

The Wii never fails to surprise us with the many ways its motion-tracking capabilities are being used in games, and Koei's Samurai Warriors Katana (also known as Sengoku Musou Wave) is no exception.
No longer will you experience battling the many hordes of nameless, hapless soldiers from a third-person perspective - in Samurai Warriors Katana, it's all in first-person, with the Wiimote serving as the handle of whatever weapon of ultimate destruction you fancy. As we can see in this trailer video, fresh from this year's Koei Media Day, you'll be able to use the Wiimote to slash, stab, and prod your enemies - as well as shoot them with various projectile weapons. The fact that you can easily switch from close combat to ranged combat freshens up the hack-and-slash experience some, not to mention that the battles you'll be having with enemy officers concentrate more on timing rather than just swinging your Wiimote all over the place. Samurai Warriors Katana could be the 1:1 sword fighting title we've all been waiting for. What do you think? Let us know by your comments - in the meantime, enjoy the video! |
