The video game Samurai Slash has really come a long way, or at least it has in terms of changing its official name. The title somewhat sounds new because Koei just recently replaced the name Samurai Warriors Katana. Prior to that, it was known as Sengoku Musou Wave. Regardless of its official title though, fans can expect to see a familiar gameplay and overall feel to the game as it is actually a spin-off of the long-running and successful franchise Dynasty Warriors. Players will be swinging the Wiimote as if it's a sword to defeat hordes of soldiers in order to restore peace and rescue the civilians. Samurai Slash should have been released in Japan last December but it was ultimately delayed due to unspecified reasons. According to French gaming site Wiiz, it should be released on the said region come September 20, with the U.S. release coming soon after that. While waiting, just enjoy this new batch of screenshots. |

Long-running fans of the Dynasty Warriors series, rejoice - the latest iteration of the game that's just been renamed as Sengoku Musou Katana has just been given a definite release date, and it's sooner than we think. We give you the latest on the title that lets you mow down crowds in the same fashion that Godzilla tears through a skycraper-infested city. For the uninitiated, the Dynasty Warriors series has always been about giving the player a one-man army experience - that is, you'll be taking down massive armies by your lonesome with flashy combos and super moves. And while the series itself hasn't been too big on innovation, Sengoku Musou Katana (slated to arrive this September 20) will have you you swinging your character's weapon of choice with the Wiimote, taking full advantage of the Wii's motion-tracking capability. You'll also be handling bow shooting and horseback riding the same way, too. Certainly a good change of direction for the Dynasty Warriors series. Updates as we get them, so keep it locked right here. |

American audiences will be getting more sword-swinging action very soon, as the latest Samurai Warriors game for the Wii will be headed stateside.Gamespot received confirmation from a Koei representative that Sengoku Musou Wave, otherwise known as Samurai Warriors Wave will be renamed Samurai Slash for a US release. Of course, since Samurai Warriors is already a spin-off of Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Slash has the strange honor of being the spin-off of a spin-off of a highly successful series. Much like Red Steel and The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess, Samurai Slash will have players pitting themselves against multiple enemies while using their Wiimote (and possibly their Nunchuk) to attack and defend against overwhelming numbers. Expect Samurai Slash to come out later in the year. |

Having first made a rather brief appearance at E3 2006, Sengoku Musou Wave is starting to make its presence felt, if only bit by bit. First there was the video clip which shows how one can finally relive those long-hidden samurai fantasies. Now, we have a new batch of screenshots, courtesy of the Japanese gaming source Famitsu. Sengoku Musou Wave is a game which follows the footsteps of the popular hack-and-slash action game, Dynasty Warriors. Made by Koei, the player will have to swing the Wiimote as if it were a sword in order to defeat the oncoming horde of soldiers, defeat the enemy captain, or rescue the fleeing civilians. Although there have been some qualms regarding the game's graphics, the game still looks fun. Also, it's still a work in progress, so it may be a good idea to give Koei a bit more time to polish their work. Not much information has been released about this game, though it is expected to debut in Japan some time in 2007 and is going to be priced at „6090 or around US$ 52. More screenshots after the jump! |

Fans of the whole Dynasty Warriors-type action genre will have to wait a little while longer to get their action fix for the Wii. Koei's Sengoku Musou Wave (Samurai Warriors Wave), which was supposed to be released in Japan on December 28, has taken a hard hit. The Dynasty Warriors offshoot title's release date has been pushed back to sometime in 2007. Right now, we don't have any further information regarding the delay, but it is likely that graphics and gameplay improvements played a large part in the decision to push the title's release date back. It's been mentioned that Sengoku Musou Wave features a first-person perspective designed to take full advantage of the Wii remote. While the gameplay video evoked a few negative opinions about the game, we're hoping that this delay will result in better-looking graphics and more intuitive controls. |

Sengoku Musou Wave for Wii first made its public appearance at Nintendo's pre-E3 2006 conference back when Wii was still the Revolution. A lot has happened since then, but Sengoku Musou Wave remains a bit of a mystery. The action video game takes place in Japan during the country's feudal period where the legendary samurai ruled. The Samurai is a term for the military nobility back when Japan was noted more for its rice than its technology. The word itself means 'to serve' and a samurai is a military servant of a lord.
Sengoku Musou Wave is based on Samurai Warriors (PS2), a spin-off of the Dynasty Warriors franchise. In the Wii version the Wiimote is used to swing and control the sword - the same way a frustrated rocker plays air guitar - only it looks less idiotic. We can't give you much more info on the game itself but here's a video of how you budding "air samurais" will probably look like. |

Based from experience, leaked gameplay videos from YouTube are eventually placed out of circulation. We don't know for how long but we are telling you, it's just a matter of hours even shorter. We really do not know. So if you want a glimpse of upcoming Samurai Warriors Wave title, better be quick and watch the video now:
Developer Koei claimed that they changed the traditional third person perspective style to first person view to take advantage of the Wiimote. From where we are, it seems that the guy playing is doing just that, slashing the controller like using a sabre and pointing it like a gun. Koei, might have made the right decision. What do you think? Samurai Warriors Wave is based on the PS2 game Samurai Warriors, which in turn is an offshoot from the popular Dynasty Warriors franchise. Japan release is expected this December while localization for the Americas is still to be announced. |

Koei has just released new screens of Samurai Warriors Wave for the Wii, and as you can see from the screens, the game will be played with a first-person perspective and the Wiimote will act as your sabre (or whatever weapon you decide to use, including guns, swords, and spears). Samurai Warriors Wave is based on the PS2 game Samurai Warriors, which in turn belongs to the Dynasty Warriors franchise. There are no news yet as to when this will be released in North America, but it is slated for a Japanese release in December. We will update you as soon as we get more info. Meanwhile, here are screens to temporarily satisfy your warrior cravings. |
