Lyon GDC - Image 1How can a bunch of insanely loud alien bunnies power a game into becoming a popular franchise? The answers lie at this year's Lyon GDC, where Ubisoft's Nicolas Normandon and Loïc Gounon explains how humor and creative work helped establish the Rayman Raving Rabbids franchise. Find out more at the full article.

Rayman: The Raving Rabbids for the Wii, for US$ 29.99 - Image 1Ubisoft's started cutting down on the prices for some of their earlier Wii titles. Going into specifics, this means that the Wii owners can now pick up a copy of Rayman Raving Rabbids for a US$ 29.99 over at the GameStop retailer. Or if you're after an even more tempting bargain, there's also Raving Rabbid's PC port, which is now a free (albeit ad-laden) downloadable.

Also receiving a price cut are Prince of Persia: Rival Swords, Red Steel, and Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII. All three games will be selling for US$ 29.99. We imagine these deals will get the attention of the more recent Wii owners. In case you missed out on these games from before, now may be a good time to to add them to your shelf. The full purchase details are available in GameStop's site, via the read link.

Raving Rabbid Cake - Image 1

This isn't exactly what you came to QJ for to read, but we did think that Kotaku user Daniel P.'s wife did a heck of a job with this nice Raving Rabbids (Ubisoft) birthday cake for her son. If our QJ moms baked us cakes inspired by our favorite games, we would be torn apart trying to decide whether to eat it or to just look at it.

We're no experts on the fine art of cookery, and there weren't a lot of details thrown in to let us know how it was made and what ingredients went in. The one thing we know is that it's from Germany, and look! The rabbid is holding a 1Up Mario mushroom for the kid's age!

We hope to see more game cakes soon. How about a Final Fantasy, Halo or Silent Hill Cake? Those things would be the star of every party provided that Phoenix Down, alien hide and visceral parts aren't in the recipe.

Rabbid - Image 1It was bound to happen. According to N-Europe, NGamer Magazine has a piece confirming Ubisoft's follow up to their hit title Rayman Raving Rabbids for Nintendo's Wii video game console.

Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 will reportedly provide a more detailed background on the Rabbids. It will contain a narrative focusing on "their training for world domination in their top-secret camp situated under a shopping centre". This is the camp that Rayman infiltrates, leading to more mini games and more spastic pointing and waving around of the Wiimote.

Details are still scarce and there's been no word on a release date, but word is that the sequel will be for both the Wii and the Nintendo DS. The graphics have also reportedly been given an overhaul, looking more polished this time around.

Rayman Raving Rabbids sequel coming soon? - Image 1

Is there a new Rayman title in the works? That's the question that The Platformers asked when they got hold of the art book included with the Xbox 360 version of Ubisoft's Rayman Raving Rabbids.

According to a post on The Platformers, "on the backside of an art book bundled with the Xbox 360 edition of Rayman Raving Rabbids lies an image which would undoubtedly cause one to think a sequel for to Raving Rabbids is on the way". Of course, the "semi-announce a new game through the often overlooked instruction manual" maneuver was also employed by Sony for God of War: Chains of Olympus.

The fact that Rayman Raving Rabbids was one of Ubisoft's more successful titles also lends credence to this rumor. Remember though, this is all just pure conjecture, but hey, a new Rayman Raving Rabbids game would be most welcome, we think. What about you guys? Leave a comment and let us know.

Evolution of a Rabbid - Image 1

Since (and before) the release of Ubisoft's Rayman Raving Rabbids on the Wii (and soon enough, on the Xbox 360 and DS as well), many have already been smitten by the fluffy bundles of impending disco doom. And the person behind it all? No other than character designer Hubert Chevillard. In his latest update on the dev blog for RRR over at IGN, Chevillard explains just how exactly the Rabbids came to be what they are now: "everybody's favorite fauna" in his words, and "Ubisoft's impromptu mascot" in ours.

According to him, the concept of the Rabbids plotting to take over the world and all that, was actually Michel Ancel's idea (so I suppose this makes HIM the mastermind, and Chevillard the evil genius). So, working from Ancel's original sketch of the Rabbid in his head, Chevillard and his team then proceeded to create various 3D models that would keep up with the delirious bunny menace that rabbids are meant to be. Working with various prototypes, they eventually hit upon the rabbid look which we are now all familiar with. They then added the big, open mouth, and the two, big teeth which were inspired by Japanese cartoon characters.

More details, images and a video on the evolution of Rabbids, right after the Jump!

Ubisoft, plus Rayman Raving Rabbids, equals Ubibunnies? - Image 1

In case you were looking for something earth-shattering and/or important in this article, well we have to warn you right now that you won't find any here. This one will be talking about bunnies.

Over at the recently-concluded Game Developers Conference (GDC), the career pavilion was one of the main areas of interest. Game companies basically set up booths so that aspiring game developers and artists can approach them to try their luck and mettle in the gaming industry. Of course, all gaming companies who participated wanted to catch the attention of as many bright young minds as they could, so each one had their own booth attractions.

In Ubisoft's case, as if the name "Ubisoft" itself wasn't enough to catch a young artist's attention, they just had to kick it up a notch and enlist the help of some rabbids (is it just me, or has anyone noticed that the Rabbids from Rayman Raving Rabbids have somehow transformed into the Ubisoft mascots? Rabbids = Ubisoft?) in the recruitment process. After all, no one can resist the call of the bunnies (yeah, the one that goes "DAAAAA!!!!").

Ubisoft Wii titles - Image 1

Toys "R" Us has great news for all the Wiimote-whacking fellas out there, they're currently offering a '2+1 free' special promo wherein you'll get to snag a Ubisoft Wii game for free...if you buy two other titles, that is.

This is great news especially for those who haven't gone out and grabbed their own copy of the games you see in the image above. (Although, why anyone would wait this long before grabbing Red Steel is just beyond me. Hehe.) Currently being sold for US$ 49.99 each, the Ubisoft titles included in the promo are GT Pro Series, Open Season, Red Steel, Rayman Raving Rabbids, and Monster 4x4. We dunno how long this promo will run, so if you don't have any of these games yet, we suggest you run out and grab your copies now.

Them rabbids are really cute aren't they? So friggin' cute, you'd want to gobble them up! Well let's see if you'd still have the stomach to do just that with these home-made rabbid cupcakes.

Apparently, some happy-yet-not-so-able-in-the-kitchen duo do have plans of eating them that they literally baked up those cute, fuzzy hoppin' mammals from Ubisoft's Rayman Raving Rabbids. Oh, but don't worry, no real rabbits were harmed in this --er-- catastrophic baking process.

I don't know about you, but they don't look delish in the least bit in these photos. They look utterly mad, I tell you. Maaaadddd!!!! Oh well, at least they got the character of the rabbids down pat...

Bon apetit!

Ó

With February being the season of mush hearts and all that, we have to remember that this Valentine's Day, not everyone is as lucky as those who have found a partner to share this occasion with. Some guys and girls are lucky enough to find that one other person on the planet who shares their game addiction, who thinks Rinoa is a bi***, er, woman of questionable manners, and who is willing to either cosplay at their own wedding, or at least have a Mario-themed wedding cake.

Well, for those who have not yet found such a person, or who are planning to ask the a person out this weekend (well, the 14th WAS in the middle of a workweek...), let the Rabbids from Rayman Raving Rabbids show you a thing or to on what NOT to do during that critical moment when you finally get the chance to walk up to the person of your dreams and ask them out.

First of all, no funny hats.

Second, check if your lady love has a preference for facial hair or not.

Third, "DAAAAAAAA!!" may not be such a good answer to any question. Any.

However, note that being cute and fluffy MAY win you some points, so take note, and watch the video below for a demonstration of these Rabbid dating tips.
