In the animated film feature "Open Season", Mother Nature strikes back and turns the usual hunters (that would be our species) into the hunted. It features a cast of woodland animals unlike those we've seen on Disney movies. They don't come and help with the chores while singing their critter hearts out. They're hell bent on protecting their turf.
In the upcoming Wii version of Open Season (already out on the PSP, DS and Xbox 360) Boog the bear and Elliot the mule-deer reprise their roles as Mother Nature's wacky and unlikely defenders caught in the middle of the open hunting season. The multi-platform game has basically the same features. If you haven't played it yet, these are some of the things that will keep you glued to your Wii:

Let's accept the fact that in the end we're all at the mercy of Mother Nature and that she'll pwn us anytime she wants. This can include letting bears who can turn a pink brassiere and a moose's antlers into a lethal slingshot, armed with either a smelly skunk or a grouchy squirrel with lots of acorns to spare, run lose in the wild. So, we thought it best that you learn to recognize these situations and know how to get out of them. And who better to learn from than the master of wildlife mischief himself - Boog the bear from Open Season! Just follow this 'Open Season Guide to Surviving the Wilderness for Bears' lessons, and up your chances on not being the butt of jokes of the animal kingdom. Games that have people's name attached to the title seem to be doing well. Great examples are Tony Hawk and Tiger Woods-themed games. However, there's also one more familiar name that needs to be mentioned: Tom Clancy.
Tom must be really happy right now. Besides being an author of various military-related books, his name is attached to two games that are bound to be as much of a best-seller as his paperbacks. Ka-ching! Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent (Xbox 360 and Wii): series has so far sold 14M units globally.Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas (Xbox 360, PS3, PSP): another of Tom's name on one of the better sellers: 14M again. Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii, Nintendo DS): The Rayman is back to sell more than 17M units worldwide. Far Cry Vengeance (Wii): FPS series that sold 2M worldwide. Brothers In Arms D-Day (PSP): young but sold 3Mso far. Good start. Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII (Wii): planes and WWII--some of the things you'll need for a good game. Prince of Persia Rival Swords (PSP): This old game has been selling over 8M globally. Petz (Nintendo DS): Top Ten on GBA Red Steel (Wii): The FPS created just for the Wii. Looks awesome. GT Pro Series (Wii): takes the Wii controllers for a real ride. Open Season (Xbox 360, PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii) the movie-tie-in game that's all over the gaming consoles and handhelds this year. Star Wars Lethal Alliance (Nintendo DS, PSP): the first Star Wars built just for the next-gen handhelds. Monster 4X4 World Circuit (Wii): Scary and big trucks come rolling down the Wii. |

Boog the bear and Elliot the mule-deer are out now, earlier on the gaming platforms than on the big screen! Ubisoft just released Open Season today, September 18, and is (and will be) available for the PSP, PS2, NDS, Xbox 360, Xbox, PC, GBA GameCube, and Wii (coming soon). While it's out in a whole bunch of platforms, it's still gonna be the same game that will take you into the woods for a pre-movie delight! If you haven't gotten it yet, and are still deciding, here's a simple outline of what we've already revealed before:

Slapstick comedy peppered with some savage charms at its finest. Open Season is based on Sony Pictures Animation’s first feature-length CG animated film that'll be coming out on September 29. “Ubisoft is thrilled to be collaborating with the movie production team of Open Season to bring the humorous adventures of Boog and Elliot to the interactive world,” said Tony Key, vice president of marketing at Ubisoft. We follow the story of a domesticated grizzly names Boog, that had been sweet talked by a fast-talking mule dear called Elliot into leaving the comforts of his home only to find himself in the middle of the woods surrounded my hunters, three days before the open season. Boog goes native, rallying all the forest animals to take back their home and send the hunters packing. You'll get to see the works in this video. An fuzzy grizzly will do anything from hurling rabbits, skunk bombs and acorn-firing squirrels so as not to end up as a rug in someone's cabin. Move over Yogi. There's a new bear in town. Through all the announcements that have been made, a compilation of what should be launch titles for the Wii has been made! Surprisingly, Ubisoft has more titles than even Nintendo! Check it out:
Of course, some of these games may see delays. Also, it's not known whether this will be "Launch Day" or "Launch Window" but the Wii launch should be much more spectacular than the N64 and GCN! Although now we run the risk of having too much to play in too short a time. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on the same day... Nintendo, how could you? Click any of the links on the above games for our coverage. |

In an interview with IGN, Ubisoft North America president Laurent Detoc talked about the seven launch titles for the Wii. The lineup includes the previously revealed Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids, as well as Far Cry, Blazing Angels, Open Season, Monster 4x4: World Circuit, and a new racer called GT Pro Series.Seven launch titles from one company is quite remarkable and the decision to bring these games to Wii is based on Ubisoft's bullish outlook for the next-gen console. The company's ultimate goal is to be the number one independent publisher for the Wii in 2006. The announcement of Far Cry for Wii was quite a surprise as it will be released against another first person shooter (FPS), Red Steel. It would seem that the move has Ubisoft running the risk of cannibalizing its own sales. Detoc says this won't be the case; the games offer different experiences. The Wii version of Far Cry will include elements from Far Cry Instincts Evolution in addition to a fresh storyline. As with Red Steel, players will be able to shoot enemies using the remote in Far Cry. Detoc adds, "You will also be able to throw grenades, punch, jump, run and balance to keep from plunging to your death. You will also be able to drive cars, trucks and boats. If you're looking for a game that allows you to experience the true beauty of the Wii and its revolutionary remote technology, this is it." For the dogfighting game Blazing Angels, Detoc gave an idea on how the game will be played on Wii. The left and right hands will perform separate roles with less crossover and collaborative control patterns. That way, one hand can focus on main controls, while the other is used for simple routines. As for Monster 4x4, the controls were rebuilt to make use of Wii's motion-sensing features, so players can actually feel like they're at the wheel. GT Pro Series, which is a Wii-exclusive, is inspired by a Japanese game that wasn't released in North America. Ubisoft is optimizing the game for the Wii. It will feature 80 licensed cars, loads of tuning options and fluid drift-style controls and physics. While that's pretty standard for a racer, Detoc hinted on an mysterious accessory that will make the game a must-have. Finally, Detoc sung his praises for the Wii: "From what I've played and observed, the Wii will be successful. It changes our entertainment experience as gamers. It is innovation at its finest. As a creative company, Ubisoft embraced the remote as a gold mine for our talented developers to imagine new ways to play and interact with their TVs. That's what you will get from us across seven games in four different genres." Looks like we're going to see a solid lineup of Wii titles come launch time. If this is an indication of what we can expect from future Ubisoft games for Wii, then the company might just be on its way to becoming the number one publisher for Nintendo's next-gen console. |
