Namco Museum Remi - Image 1

Retro gaming fans should take a whiff of these latest Namco Museum Remix screenshots available from Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu.

We now get a clearer idea on how Gator Panic Remix will look in the Wii from these whimsical screenshots: There's the colorful gators waiting for their turn to get pummeled with the hammer, popping out from their lairs to receive their share of whopping.

Another screenshot also shows one of the tracks from the Rally-X Remix mini game, where our favorite yellow circle is breezing his way with what seems to be a nitro-powered racer. Aside from beating the course in the shortest time possible, Rally-X Remix also has other goals that should be fulfilled, like collecting flags as shown in the screenshot.

Wii fans who purchased Nintendo's console for casual, fun games should be happy with Namco Bandai's party pack for the Wii once Namco Museum Remix comes out. There's no news about a release date yet, but as always do stay tuned for more updates here at QJ!

As you know, the Namco Museum Remix video game for the Wii is actually many games in one. It has "remixes" (i.e., versions that have been re-invented and re-created) of a bunch of Namco classics like Galaga and Rally-X, as well as added in nine more classics like Super Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Mappy, Gaplus, Xevious, and Galaxian.

This video features two of the Namco Museum Remix games. The video starts with Rally-X clips and ends with two Galaga levels.

If Pac-Man meets go-kart racing is your style, you'll enjoy the first Rally-X clips. Personally, I was rather bored by the first two clips (but that's probably because whoever was controlling Pac-Man kept on setting himself or herself up for nasty crashes).

But at 3:03 into the video, things really pick up with the Galaga remix. It looks more alive and happy - and we look forward to shooting down the bad guys with the Wiimote. However, I'm kind of a bit disappointed that the features that made Galaga fun are missing (others have pointed out that there are no extra points for shooting whole rows).

All in all, this looks like an early demo version, and Namco probably has other features they still want to add to the game (for example, wouldn't it be nice if the Galaga Pac-Man could get abilities that would let him dodge those shots being aimed at him?).

Namco Museum Remix is being developed by, and will be published by, Namco, that well-loved game company. The game is being scheduled for the 3rd or early 4th quarter of 2007.

Lovers of casual games who have flocked to the Wii will rejoice at this title.

Namco Museum Screenshot - Image 1Don your rose-tinted glasses for Namco's announced a compilation of remade arcade classics soon to be released for the Nintendo Wii, titled Namco Museum Remix. With the iconic dot-eating yellow ball, Pac-Man, players will use the Wiimote and its motion-tracking capabilities to shoot, swipe and whack their way through five games. All of which re-imagined and re-mixed from popular licenses anyone will immediately recognize, even Grandma.

If you're like us and you're already itching for some fast and furious retro action, here are the descriptions of the remixed games, just so you know what you'll be up against:
  • Pac'n'Roll Remix: Pac-Man goes Katamari in this remix, where players will have to roll the yellow dude through worlds filled with deadly obstacles - all the while rolling up pac-pellets and power-ups. Now, if only Namco could go the entire nine yards and make a Katamari Damacy for the Wii...
  • Galaga Remix: Eradicate, obliterate, destroy - and shoot down the incoming horde of Galaga's aliens before they get to Pac-Man! Up to four players can take up the battle for awesome multiplayer action, with individual score tracking.
  • Pac-Motos Remix: Reign supreme in the world of small, brightly-colored arenas as you use the Wiimote to knock, slam and boot the competition out of the ring.
  • Rally-X Remix: The need to speed has taken over Pac-Man and it's up to you to steer him to victory! Using the Wiimote in an intuitive control scheme, navigate your way through tricky, obstacle-filled tracks and leave the competition hanging in the dust.
  • Gator Panic Remix: Gator problem? Pac-Man's on the case. Whack, slap and smash emerging gators onscreen with the help of the dot-eating yellow dude. Whoever whacks the most gators wins.
Besides most of these remixed titles being multiplayer-friendly, the retro-action continues unabated with nine classic titles that you can fire up and enjoy for a trip back down memory lane: Galaxian, Dig Dug, Mappy, Xevious, Gaplus, Super Pac-Man, Pac & Pal, Pac-Mania and Cute Q. There's no word yet of pricing or a release date - but like always, updates as they happen. In the meantime, here's some Pac-Man flavored eye-candy. Enjoy!
