Nope not to Antarctica nor Alaska, but to retail stores. Hey, store shelves can handle "extreme coolness" too you know.Anyway, on to the actual sensical stuff. Midway Games has announced that they've shipped a total of 1.8 million units of Happy Feet (DS, Wii, PC) since the game's mid-November release last year. Even though the game's sales figures haven't been as hot as the Warner Bros. movie's total box office sales (a whopping US $ 326 million, fellas!), Midway remains optimistic that the videogame has helped them make their mark in the "younger" videogame market. Whether we'll get to see more of Mumble, the tone-deaf tap-dancing penguin (and his bouncing baby love Gloria) in a game sequel is a possibility we have yet to explore. We'll keep you posted for more. |

It has one of the cutest-looking and best animated trailers ever shown to date, and you can't go wrong with penguins. Now, Midway is taking the penguins onto the Wii, with Happy Feet.
As it stands from the screenshots, Happy Feet is your standard kiddie-centered rhythm or dancing game. The main potential difference between a PC or PS2 version and the Wii is the mysterious Wiimote. Will they allow players to use the wiimote to time the arrows by letting them dance, or will we be confined to using the controller like a usual interface? Waiting for someone to release a dance pad accessory would be nice, but since it isn't even out yet, let's hold our breath and hope that the real game will be just as cool as the place those penguins live on. |

The game version of the popular George Miller animated comedy film Happy Feet is one of the most hotly anticipated games for the Wii and the Nintendo DS... Well, at least that's what I hear from my nieces and nephews.
This adventure will take place in Antarctica in the land of the Emperor Penguins, in something akin to an alternate universe where penguins have the ability to sing and dance. Same as in the movie version, Mumble is the main character in the game, and he has a small big problem - he's a bad singer. Why is this a problem for the hero? It's like this in the land of the penguins: each penguin needs to have his own special song to be able to attract a mate, so if Mumble is the worst singer and can't attract his soul mate, he's doomed to be alone for the rest of his penguin life. (Why are my nieces interested in a penguin love story anyway?)
Players of the game will have to help Mumble in his quest to become better at singing (as he's already an amazing tap-dancer) so he'll be able to attract his soul mate. The point of view of the players will be Mumble's, and they will have to help and lead Mumble to experience music, dance and interaction with his fellow penguin friends and his enemies in the penguin world.
Happy Feet for Wii, Nintendo DS, GBA, GC, PC and PS2 will be released November 2006. Check out related character art, just released at E3.

We've all been basically going with "US Thanksgiving Week" for a release date of the Nintendo Wii,. However, Midway's list of E3 titles and approximate dates has Blitz: The League set for a date closer to the Canadian Thanksgiving (October for those who don't know). This might just be an oversight, but we can still hope! Anyway, here are the titles that Midway will be showing off next week.Blitz: The League (Xbox 360, Wii, PSP) - October 2006 This will be an entry in the popular Blitz series. The arcade-style football game will follow the story of a harsh, fictional football league. Why not the NFL you ask? Because EA bought the exclusive rights to that! Happy Feet (PlayStation 2, Gamecube, Wii, Game Boy Advance, DS, PC) - November 2006 Happy Feet will be based on the upcoming film of the same name by Warner Bros. You will play as Mumble, a penguin born into a nation of singing Emperor Penguins who sing to mate. Mumble is a horrible singer, but a wonderful tap dancer. You'll follow the storyline of the movie in this interactive adventure. The Ant Bully (PlayStation 2, Gamecube, Wii, Game Boy Advance, PC) - July 2006; Wii Version in November 2006 Another game based on an upcoming film by Warner Bros, The Ant Bully features a boy called Lucas who bullies ants. Ironically, he's turned into an act and must live among them. You will play as Lucas and follow the plot of the movie. |
