Dragon Ball Z - Image 1So, you've read the manga, loved the anime and got hooked on the games, but are you ready to see Son Goku and his friends take on the big screen? 20th Century Fox surely is.

According to Canadian news site Canada.com, 20th Century Fox has given the go-ahead to three major film productions, one of them being a live-action movie based on Akira Toriyama's brainchild.

The movie will reportedly have a budget of no less than US$ 100 million, and will begin production soon with no details as to when it's projected to be shown.

The Dragon Ball Z franchise is considered as one of the most popular literary franchises in the world, with deals encompassing print, TV, video games, clothing and toys. Let's hope that this project yields results that will give justice to the legendary series. We'd love to see how the actors will go Super Saiyan on us.

DBZ gameplay - Image 1

The Wiimote has revolutionized game controls and it seems that some players are simply asking too much. Take Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2.

Some of the gameplay videos featured making the same movements with the Wiimote as the blonde gravity-defying haired Goku and the rest of his buff friends. Some complain that the movements aren't as faithful to the real movements. The Kamehameha could be done by holding down Z on the Nunchuk and the B button while moving the Wiimote back then forward. Far cry from the hadoken-like hand gesture. Some expressed disappointed at the "bland controls".

The dash control also came under fire as it is done by shaking the nunchuk. Since the dash is primarily used for evasion and combos, the shaking motion would be troublesome if you are to start a counterattack or a combo. Some beg to differ, however, as the game is perfect for them as is. They argue that those who find the controls inappropriate should just plug in a GameCube or a VC controller.

Well, you can't please everybody.

I know a good wig store over at Jersey...

Good news for Europe: Your all-time favorite golden-haired, gravity-defying-do dude is making his debut next year (not the guy with the buster sword). Atari Europe just announced that this March, their residents can expect the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 title for the Wii to be blasting in on their retail stores.

For the guys who are probably grumbling "Yeah, well it's been out in the U.S. ages ago...grrr..." look on the bright side, those months you're gonna be sitting through could be put to good use, like rehearsing the moves you're gonna need to pull off on the Wiimote - the game promises over 100 playable characters for your daily workout, with an additional six extra guys to pick out for the Europe release - kind of Atari's way of saying they're sorry the long wait.

Whatever the case, and whoever the character, we end this announcement with a friendly reminder - grip that Wiimote tight, lest your TV becomes the first casualty in your botched attempted Kamehameha. For now, we leave you with these pics to give you an idea of what you can do, and what some of the fighters can.

If you're still wondering what you're going to be looking like when you play Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 on the Wii, then here's the cat to kill that curiosity. These are vids which show two rather dorky looking guys really getting into the game: reenacting trademark moves of Vegetta and Piccolo, throwing punches and kicks, and savoring the applause of the audience.

Hey, you might think they look like total anime-geeks, but we wouldn't mind looking silly as hell. That's the fun of playing on the Wii, anyways. Exaggerated movements, stylized hand motions, Wiimote personality... Watching the gamer play the game is just as fun as watching the game itself being played.

Remember when your old Drama class teacher always prattled on about breaking the 4th wall to let the audience into the play? Here's proof of that:

DBZ FTWii! Namco Bandai has just announced that Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 has now been shipped to retail stores across North America. And all this right on time for the launch. No hitches, no hang ups, no lags. From gold status to confirmed launch title, DBZ BT 2 is sparkling its super-sayan semi-simian arse for everyone to grab on the shelves.

For US$49.95, you've got the whole Dragon Ball mythology in the disc. This game promises to cater to old and new fans alike. Now if you're still not sure about getting the game or not, let's have a recap of its features:
  • 120 playable characters
  • 50 hours of gameplay (story mode, tag team battles, etc)
  • 16 vast and destructible 3D environments
  • 9 game modes (including single- and multiplayer)
  • and a partridge in a pear tree
With the Wii remote and Nunchuck, players would finally be able to physically engage in performing signature moves such as Goku's Kamehameha. If you've always been teased for being a DBZ-geek, now's your chance to really let lose and prove who can pwn who's anime butt.

DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 goes GOLD

While everyone thought that Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 would be released on November 22, Atari has just announced that their game has reached gold status and is now ready for a mass market invasion of North America. Currently, the game is now bumped up to being a launch title and will be available on November 19.

Spanning 25 games since May 2002, the DBZ series now introduces this new game on a new platform. It promises to be "the most complete DBZ experience to date." Hey, what with 120 playable characters straight from the said anime fandom, all the 3D flying that can last you 27-billion and one lifetimes, and all the animated transformations, transmutations, and transma-whatevers that you have ever encountered... how could one argue?

Trying to un-hype a game such as this seems like a nigh impossible task. Especially if you've got a rampaging super-sayan breathing behind your back.

wiiWant a free Wii? Of course ya do! Well, in addition to the other "Win a Wii" contests we've featured earlier, N-Philes is hosting yet another one!

BUT, this time the stakes are higher, and you'll not only get a chance to take home a free Wii, but also a free copy of Red Steel, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and Dragon Ball Z Budokai: Tenkaichi 2!!!

In a team-up with Activision, Atari, and Ubisoft, N-Philes will be hosting a Win a Wii Comic Contest, where contestants will vie for the much-awaited console and the free games by creating a comic strip based on N-Philes, the Nintendo universe, or the Wii. Time to get those creative juices flowing guys! And as you know, competition will be tough, in fact there have been over 30 entries submitted in less than a week!

You can also create your comics based on the three games also up for grabs; you can turn your strips into an anime or base it on Red Steel's take on the funky Japanese culture. All entries should be submitted by November 11th to give site visitors and the N-Philes community ample time to vote for the most creative comics.

To join the contest, first of all you'll have to register at the N-Philes forums because only registered forum members can join. Once you've done that, it's time to let the smart-assed AND creative Picasso in you take over and create your comics, which you will then send to contest@n-philes.com to submit it straight to the staff. And remember, all entries should be in by November 11.

Visitors can vote November 11, while N-Philes community members will have 'til November 15th to cast their votes. Out of the ten highest-rated comics, the N-Philes staff will choose three lucky winners based on originality and humor. The very lucky winner will be announced on November 18th, a day before the Wii launch.

And because we're such nice people here in QJ, we've provided a link for you guys that'll lead you directly to the N-Philes forums 'coz we know a lot of you will automatically be registering once you read this article. Hahaha. And with that, we wish all Wii-hopefuls tons of luck and you never know, maybe we might feature your winning comic strip right here on QJ.*winks* Good luck!

Dragon Ball Z

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is going to be released this November 21. By now, you should already know how to execute a Wave and probably have imagined yourself firing a Burning Attack and a Masenko. With over 100 characters at your disposal, you might be wondering if you've mastered all possible special attacks...Nope, don't look at us - we haven't still mastered the Kamehameha dream.

Anyway, these new screenshots send our imaginations reeling again. Come on, we have here images of dragon god Shenlong, young boy Uub, and the intelligently careful Yajirobe among others. With each having their own special moves, are we just going to tote and swing the Wiimote and Nunchuk aimlessly and hope to pull something off?

Of course, not. We will read up, review and revisit our manga and video collection. And in front of monitors and mirrors, we will use our special abilities - without shame! We are not kidding. We will be masters of this game! Sorry, we got carried away. But really, we are not kidding. This game wouldn't be as much fun if you can't utilize these attacks. So better know all the characters and their moves, okay?

Blondie Gokou

Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkachi 2 is about to hit the Wii in a couple of weeks and most just can't wait to get their hands on it; and the artbox shown last time just got most gamers teased. Although the 100 optional characters and the cool cell-shaded graphics are already great enough treats on their own, it's how the Wiimote and Nunchucks will be used that's making most crazy with curiosity and delight.

Here are three videos for those who are still thirsting for more DBZ for the Wii. The first video will show our chubby friend, Majin Buu take on Dodoria; the second shows our main hero, Son Gokou spar with Piccolo; and the last one has the Yamtcha and Krillin match.

Remember to take a look at the bottom right-hand corner as it will show how the Wii controllers will be used for this game. Although, it may not be as dramatic as most expect, at least there's still hope for us sedentary folks. The game will be out November 21.
