Monolith Soft's Disaster: Day of Crisis for the Wii attempts to give the survival games genre a new twist by foregoing plots revolving around heroes killing zombies or creatures created by genetic experiments. Instead, the video game's character is tasked to contend with various disasters such as floods, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes. What made the title's plot really interesting is this tweak: In the midst of the disasters, a rogue special forces unit has taken the opportunity of stealing a nuclear bomb. The lead character is then assigned to retrieve the stolen nuclear weapon. The screenshots we have for you in this post show some of the more gripping scenes of the game, including having to revive a civilian and shootouts with armed soldiers. Disaster: Day of Crisis is slated to be released in Japan by December 31, with a U.S. launch following next year. The rest of the screenshots await after the jump! |

Rumors circulated around the gaming industry that Project H.A.M.M.E.R is being cancelled just days after E3 2007. The event last year was a little better and brighter for this title as fans were given a preview of how it's going to look and feel like: a hammer-swinging cyborg capable of killing and destroying anything in its path. Aside from H.A.M.M.E.R., one of the more promising titles that was announced for Nintendo Wii by Monolith is Disaster: Day of Crisis. Details never really came for this game but it should somehow remind fans of the movie The Day After Tomorrow as the game is set in U.S.A. after a series of apocalyptic natural disasters. The above mentioned titles went MIA during E3 2007 and CVG tried to contact Nintendo to know the real score. According to one representative from the company, Day of Crisis is still in development but is currently on hold. Then the spokesperson explained, "Disaster is still under development. We've shifted development resources from Project H.A.M.M.E.R. You may hear about it in the future, but it's off the schedule for now". That's it for now from Nintendo and Monolith regarding these two titles. We do hope that they find the resources and the time to finish Disaster as it looks to be one hell of an interesting and unique game. |

Monolith Soft, the developers of Disaster: Day of Crisis, had some words about their upcoming game. It looks like the game is "reaching to its climax". What does that mean? Well, there are two possibilities. The first is that they're just getting close to the development crunch time and the second is that they're almost done with the game (the first option being more likely). Disaster is a game that's set to appeal to a more mature audience. From what we know, it's going to be set in the United States of America after a huge chain of natural disasters. Hmmm... sure sounds a bit like The Day After Tomorrow. But this should be an interesting change from our good 'ol friend Mario, don't you think? Monolith doesn't want to give out too much information though, so we'll hopefully get something concrete next week at the September 14th conference. But even if we're quite in the dark about this game, we will still keep you posted. |

Just this weekend, Nintendo fans have gotten quite stirred up by images that have been floating around the web which are SUPPOSEDLY scans of trashed documents from the desk of President and Chief Operating Officer for the North American division of Japan-based video game company Nintendo, Reggie Fils-Aime.The document, which was supposedly fished directly from Reggie's office trash bin after a meeting, talks about how Nintendo plans to continue its domination of the gaming market, mainly pointing out the success of the Nintendo DS as compared to other consoles and handhelds. By the third page however, it proceeds to talk about the game Disaster Day of Crisis which Nintendo legend Miyamoto is supposed to be "heavily involved in". In the same paragraph, there is also a reference to their statement at the previous E3 event that they have one more big secret to reveal, and that this will be carried out via Disaster Day of Crisis. However, page 4 has the most interesting bits, since in it can be found yet another paragraph which states, to quote: "... yes, our last secret has to do with how you look at games, how you experience them. We've been holding back this announcement because we're afraid our competitors might copy the idea. So to keep that risk low as possible, we've kept it secret - until now." The next part then proceeds to talk about another invention called the HMD or Helmet Mount Display which is supposed to allow the player to achieve the experience that he or she is inside the game itself, thus introducing a whole new level of game immersion. However, despite this flurry of exciting information, one question remains to be answered: Is this real? Does being a janitor at Nintendo HQ really pay off? Has valuable corporate information just been irrevocably leaked? Is this just an addition to an already-growing number of rumors surrounding the Wii? Is this an elaborate (and well-written) hoax? Is this a strategy by Nintendo to throw everyone else off balance? Calling all conspiracy theorists and analysts out there. Here's a scan of the documents in question for your dissection and perusal. Let us know what you think. |
