Hot off the Leipzig GC 2007, we've got a trailer of a new title announced by Ubisoft called Cranium Kabookii. Yeah, we know, you're probably asking "what's up with all the head anatomy parts in game titles?" That we can't answer, but this clip should offer some clues.
Alright, what did we find out by watching the trailer? Still not a whole lot. We know that this game will be based on a board game with a similar name, but when it comes to gameplay details, Ubisoft was pretty mum. All it said was that the game can accommodate a huge number of players at the same time with just one Wiimote. Let's hope Cranium Kabookii reveals more about itself in the weeks to come. It seems the casual games market is tightening up with the big firms all jostling for position. We'll give you more news as soon as an update comes. |

Thanks to casual gaming, Ubisoft predicts that the gaming market will expand by 50% within the next 4 years. Casual games have greatly expanded the market by attracting a new audience, letting non-gamers cross over to the gaming side with their pick up and play stratagem.Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explains to Reuters at the Leipzig Games Convention the importance of Casual Gaming to the industry. Not only were the profits from their casual games line helped finance the hardcore games for the next gen consoles, but it's also expected to account for 20% of their revenues for this year, raking in about EUR 825 million (US$ 1.1 billion.) One other great advantage to casual games is the cost of its development. A casual game costs only EUR 1 to 4 million depending on how many platforms it will be available in. In contrast, a normal Nintendo Wii game will cost EUR 5 to 10 million while an Xbox 360 and a PlayStation 3 game will cost around EUR 10 to 20 million. In light of this, it looks like Ubisoft has no intention of letting their casual game line die down and has even announced a new game for the Nintendo Wii. Based on the award-winning board game "Cranium," Cranium Kabookii is slated for a release this December. |

It's the last day of the Games Convention in Leipzig but before leaving Leipzig, Ubisoft announced a new party game for the Nintendo Wii called Cranium Kabookii. If the title sounds familiar to you, that's because it's based on a board game with a similar name. Details are still scarce for Cranium Kabookii (even Ubisoft's announcement didn't reveal any gameplay), but it was said that an unlimited number of players can take part in the game in one go but all of them will be using just a single Wiimote. A goggles peripheral will also come bundled with the title. These goggles will allow those wearing it to see the clues in the screen so that it will not be necessary to use real cards. All activities will be similar to the board game and each one will take around 30 minutes to play. Ubisoft, finally, added that Cranium Kabookii will be available worldwide this holiday season. As always, updates as we get them! |
