Despite owing his fortune to his music, DMX has a few bones to pick with the music industry, condensing it all on a profanity-rich rant that lasts nearly two minutes. The rapper believes that the industry is holding out on artists like him, particularly with the CD sales. On that note, he also fires a few rounds at the video game industry for doing the same. It's all on video, and it's in here.

Electronic Arts offered him a US$ 25,000 signing bonus, and two cents for every game sold. Obviously, he wasn't too psyched about it. “$50 dollar (expletive) game and you’re giving me two cents? Let me think about that for a minute," he said. "“The more I think about it, I be like these (expletive) are straight (expletive) robbing me." Apparently, having a huge mansion and a garage packed with tight rides isn't enough.

Maybe because video games are "evil"

I can somewhat see his point on the music side(but he did take the offer) As for the game side. Did he help program the game. No. At most all he did was give his likeness and voice. So I do not see where he is coming from here.

He's lucky. I've never heard anything from him worth $.02. He should jump on that (expletive)(expletive). Stupid (expletive).

so if I pirate his game, then he's only out 2 cents, I feel much better about that now, thanks dude!

rappers are not artists

Do you know what the definition of "artist" is?

Techni is completely right. Facts are facts.

No, its your opinion, and its a Wrong one too. True not every Rapper is a real artist, but clearly you need to learn the definition of artist. If Rap isnt an art form, then neither is written song, or poetry.

   Re: Foolmonkey - 2009-11-03

ANYTHING is an art form if done well enough. Though I like DMX, I wouldn't call him an artist as most his stuff is just hardcore thug BS. It is a talent, sure, but not an art form. I can see where he's coming from, though. I mean Cameron Diaz got paid $5 million AN HOUR for Shrek. Maybe DMX should stop messin with EA and hook up with Disney!

On another note, no one cares about DMX anymore, but he is right to protest 2c per game sold. Anyone would. It would hav eto push MILLIONS and MILLIONS of units just to earn $80k....

He is also correct that the music industry rips off artists left and right.

See I agree with you Ninjiz.... if the videogame industry is using his music through the whole videogame why only two cents thats robbery I mean atleast he has a legitamate gripe and arguement there should be some serious changes about that cus he gotta eat too.....

Artists get paid whatever value their image brings to a title, and right now i'd say DMX is the musical equivalent of a big hollywood star that can only get straight to video roles, i mean a game might sell more with him in, but he hasn't got the image to guarantee sales and the game could be one of the many loss making titles.

maybe if his music was worth anything instead of being 100% c-rap, maybe if he composed music like Beethoven, maybe if he wasn't a total WOS, maybe if the world didn't reward mediocrity, that would be a world worth having ?

I honestly can't remember any song by DMX and can't really be bothered to google it, all i remember is that film cradle to the grave, so if he starts removing videos from Youtube will anyone actually remember him in 5 years? i say who?

Do you even listen to rap ffs? No one's ever gonna forget DMX. If you don't know why I say that, you're a rap n00b.

   Re: symbal - 2009-11-03

Hey i listen to any good music whatever the genre, and if what you implying that you have to be into rap to know much about DMX then obviously he hasn't made much mark on music and will just be a little footnote in the history of rap.

   Re: Foolmonkey - 2009-11-04

That right there shows you know nothing about MUSIC, because the best ones aren't mainstream sellouts, you retard, they are underground artists that nobody knows about.

   Re: ___ - 2009-11-04
 » first of all

Music is beautiful, so rap can't be placed there, all form of music genre have some sort of singing, not some blabbing nonsense about how some one has "hoes in different areas codes"..and "shooting balsting caps at *****azz "..

/sarcasm

Are you actually trying to feel superior because you claim to know about rap music? Ha Ha Ha... i'm betting you one of these people who refuses to admit you like certain types of music because it's bad for your image, i'll say again i like GOOD music and if i like it and if an artist takes my interest i'll look further.

   Re: Ninjiz - 2009-11-04
 » ....

First of all, the fact that both of you are sitting here trying to say Rap is not art, and that rap CANT be beautiful shows how ****** ignorant you jackasses are. You know NOTHING about which you speak, and YOU are not lord of music to declare an entire genre is not art. RAP is basicly POETRY put to music, just like ANY SONG EVER WRITTEN. ARe you foolish enough to tell me Poetry isnt beautiful, and is not art? Get over yourself. But just like there is bad poetry out there, there is bad rap too.

DMX is bubblegum rap, and couldnt hold a candle to the likes of Lauren Hill, or even Common. Or even Kayne when he isnt being a douche.

   Re: symbal - 2009-11-04
 » ...

Did you even bother to read what i said? I don't recall saying rap isn't an art form i said i'm picky about what music from each genre i personally like and people like DMX may have had some success but true acclaim only comes when your work transcends the genre and is recognised by other groups of people, but DMX is just like any other rapper and if the world's musical tastes change he will not survive.

   Re: Humpfreey - 2009-11-04
 » art

This is progressively symptomatic of the intellectual decline of the West and its rise in the Far East.
Take 'modern art' and any work by Damien Hirst or Traci Eminem, they are pure garbage.
Look back at Michelangelo's statues or Da Vinci's paintings or early Greek Civilisation.
There is no comparison between modern crudity and classic sublimity and beauty.

Similiarly look at classical music; Brahms, Sibelius, Beethoven and so on.
Then look at c-rap; DMX, 50 Cents, Tupak.
To even call this cultural crudity art is a huge misnomer and an insult to art.

The only c-rapper I have any interest in is a certain Thomas Crapper, whom I think of fondly when ensconced on my royal throne ;P

'O Chaste Cloacina Goddess of the Place
Where Worship Daily all the Human Race
Soft on thy Throne may our Oblations Flow
Not Rudely Swift nor Obdurately Slow'

   Re: symbal - 2009-11-04
 » ...

You absolutely right about modern art being garbage with very small exceptions, i mean any form of expression can be seen as art but as much as these people who buy it would disagree, modern art is really just a group of people who like to find a subject that has no real meaning so they can feel superior to us when they say they can understand and analyse the modern art work, and show they have the money to waste to own a piece no-one else has.

I wouldnt wanna buy a game with DMX as the main char but I sure remember Bowie's face on the cover of omikron the nomad soul interesting me. Damn that $0.50 game sure looked lame too. Basically any game that doesnt feature a cast of original chars doesnt interest me though.

2 cents doesn't sound like much from $50, but they have a lot of people to pay for the creation of the game. A LOT of people. And if the game sells a million copies, which you'd expect a decent game to, then he's making $40,000 plus the $25,000 signing fee...and $65,000 for a few weeks work is pretty *****ing good.
Douche.

 » WOW

Apparently a lot of people here think that Rap is not a form of art or even a genre. I guess is time to lay the controller down and grab some books. Rap is a form of art even if the rapper is crappy or not - still a form of art. Definition of Art? Anyone? Wikipedia - I'm not going to define it to give you some homework to do. ;)

However, through out recent history you can see rappers taking their art and morphed it then used it in different aspects that affect society - Taking into account there a few i.e. religion, politics, entertainment (duhh!), education. Yes education, you heard that right. An example Tupac Shakur - His writing was a form of poet, some of them I remember were of the Haiku form. Ok I stop with the educational display.

I hope you enjoyed it. :)

Let's educate ourselves a little bit better before making a comment that does not have any relevance or maybe are not factual.

Going back to the topic- $0.2 Cents even I would be complaining and I'm not an artist - or maybe A'm I ? ;) -
DMX is well known ( yes he is) even if it's a crappy game I believe his ranting and arguments are valid.

Let the flame begin now.

Rap in general is not a *****ty genre, it is an art form, and it disgusts me to see people sh***ing out of their mouths like this. Maby because of the horrible state rap is in right now it may seem it, but all you have to do is look past the autotuning *****gots and u might find something worth listening to. As for the people claiming it sucks and their taste in music is sooo superior...i bet your all people who went out and bought RB Beatles and now claim your a fan and like "good music" because u know a slight bit about them and just want to trash something you obviously know nothing about. DMX was good in his time and symbal is correct the worlds taste did change and he just didn't survive.

   by lexbian - 2009-11-10
 » blablabla..

Rap is rap. Like it or don't. No one cares what your opinion is... except you. That being said...

DMX is mediocre. He's not good by anyone's aforementioned standards. He's neither a megamultiplatinum household name like Kanye, nor an underground superstar that no ones heard of (BTW, if no ones heard of you, youre NOT good. Good music gets shared). DMX is only memorable for being made to "act a fool up in here"

EXCERPT FROM SONG:
"Y'all gon' make me lose my mind
up in HERE, up in here
Y'all gon' make me go all out
up in here, up in here
Y'all gon' make me act a FOOL
up in HERE, up in here
Y'all gon' make me lose my cool
up in here, up in here
If I gotsta bring it to you cowards then it's gonna be quick, aight
All your mens up in the jail before, suck my *****
and all them other cats you run with, get done with, dumb quick
How the ***** you gonna cross the dog with some bum *****? Aight
There go the gun click, nine one one *****
All over some dumb *****, ain't that some *****
Y'all *****az remind me of a strip club, cause everytime
you come around, it's like (what) I just gotta get my ***** sucked
And I don't know who the ***** you think you talkin to
but I'm not him, aight slim? So watch what you do
Or you gon' find yourself, buried next to someone else
and we all thought you loved yourself
But that couldn't have been the issue, or maybe
they just sayin that, now cause they miss you
***** a *****a tried to diss you
That's why you layin on your back, lookin at the roof of the church
Preacher tellin the truth and it hurts"

OK THAT is art? THAT is what is being defended as art? profanity, sexuality, violence, disrespect. All in the first verse. And nowhere near as memorable as say Eazy-E. Eazy-E will be remembered in the rap annals forever, as will the likes of Kurtis Blow and the Sugar Hill Gang, Run DMC, and those honkey jews the Beastie Boys. Innovation will get you remembered, not trying to write the same gangsta rap as Tupac, while spitting lame delivery like Onyx.

And no, I'm not a huge fan of rap but at least i know what im talking about. DMX is forgettable at best, and DEFINATELY not a commodity to base the lion's share of a titles sales on. Now were a band as popular as say Green Day (again not my favorite, just wildly popular and a huge ticket with lots of drawing power) only being paid 2 cents per sale I'd say it was bogus. But DMX isn't the major sale he used to be. He's a hasbeen. Most people wouldnt buy this game even if it has an exclusive DMX track on it, not just because its a DMX track. He'll be lost in the catacombs of medicrity along with the likes of Kajagoogoo, and Kool Moe Dee.

Re: pookiepoo - 7 days ago
» its dark and hell its hot

I dont think focusing on his party tracks are fair tbh. When you listen to DMX's 1st - 3rd albums he had excellent delivery, emotion and lyrical prowess, the produciton on those albums were a+

I wouldn't call him mediocre in fact the only reason that he has fallen is due to his private problems and also the fact that the substance of his music was always grimey hard now things have changed and the game focuses on being fabulous which he is automatically outplaced unless he can adapt
