So you want to play backups but aren't feeling too grand about installing a modchip? Sure thing: here's WiiGator's Wii GameCube Backup Launcher v0.1 Theta. No need for modchips, it's just pure homebrew channel all the way!
Check out this demo vid to see it in action. Ooh, Wind Waker! This app allows you to play GameCube games on a DVD-R, though there's still some issues with compatibility. Not all games are fully working and there seems to be some memory card troubles. Though that might be the case, WiiGator is kind enough to also release the source - which basically means... it's going to be DIY for your! Here's another clip - a more shakey clip - showing an off-screen run through of the Backup Launcher. More notes are in the readme and the download link below! Many thanks to MahSixFo, aetharr, and girandhistacos for the tips! Download: Wii GameCube Backup Launcher 0.1 Theta Related articles: |

Sorry bad english... I hope there gonna be someday way to use some Wii controllers when play the GameCube games. Some MOD that use Classic Control unlike the GameCube controller.

maybe... but I doubt it. The backup loader runs completely in GC mode, meaning no access to Wiimote.

I hope he fixes Ikaruga. :

» Here are some answers now before people ask:
Yes, you have to have a memory card for the Gamecube, no SD Card support. Yes, you have to have a Gamecube controller, no Classic Controller support. It can be a full size DVD or a miniDVD, it doesn't matter. You can use BOTH DVD-R and DVD+R, for the +R's make sure you change your booktype to DVD-ROM on your preferred burning program. It doesn't matter the region of your game, always press A and it will just autodetect the region of Wii that you own and make it start under the proper region. If you have a game that is more than one disc and it says to change the disc, you have to restart the Gamecube Launcher with the second disc. That means MAKE SURE YOU SAVE FIRST. Additionally, multigame discs DO work. They were unsure at first, but no matter which program you use to make them, they work. Other than that, make sure you burn at a SLOOOOW speed to get optimal disc and play quality and enjoy!

» So I read the description....
"There's a possibility of it bricking your Wii system."
Is it it any more risky than say, flashing your PSP, or updating? I'm just curious before I go screwing around with things. Also, do the bugs really affect gameplay?
Maybe someone who's used it some can enlighten me on these questions. Thanks in advance.

» No, it's fine.
As far as it bricking your Wii, they said they used the safest coding possible and it would more likely to affect your Gamecube mode. Because, as per the instructions, all you're doing is patching the Gamecube mode with a MIOS that has the ability to read all standard Gamecube games and the unofficial backups. And even if it happens to mess up your original Gamecube mode you can just go uninstall the patched MIOS and then reinstall it. But no, it's not like a CFW or modding your ENTIRE system, it's just a Homebrew Channel app. As far as playing backups, it only really affects load times, and it's VERY minimal.
