If you're getting all fired up to play the upcoming line of downloadable titles on Nintendo's WiiWare service, it might be good to know that you might have to pay a little more than you initially bargained for.Aside from the 500 Wii Points you have to dish out for the games available on WiiWare, other additional costs were found with the said downloadable titles. In an image taken from the download screen of Square Enix's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, a disclaimer was noted stating that the game will cost points for "[additional] data or services" upon downloading it. No specific details were revealed about the additional goodies involved, but we're hoping that this is merely some kind of add-on fee for extra content and not a pay-to-play service fee. There were also reports stating that other WiiWare games made available today when the Japanese version of the service went live had similar messages included before the actual download. We'll be definitely keeping an eye for more details on this bit of news, which will become especially useful once WiiWare hits other English-speaking regions. Keep coming back to this spot for more updates regarding Nintendo's WiiWare service and other juicy tidbits. |

I wonder if "[additional] data or services" is needed to enjoy any of the games.
They might decide to charge extra for the straight line piece in Tetris or big bubble wrap in that wii-tarded bubble wrap pop game!

» WTF!?!?!?!?!
As usual, you are wrong.
I look forward to this service. To bad there wont be any demos. Video reviews are going to be key.

» "additional data"
"additional data" could mean anything from just a change of texture maps to a full blown expansion.
We won't really know until either someone interviews the creators of said title or until the "additional data" is actually released. I too, would hope it isn't a 'pay to play' scheme.. somehow I doubt it would be as I shouldn't think there'd be too many users prepared to shell out their wii points just to play a wiiware title when they can play a full game with no extra cost.
'There were also reports stating that other WiiWare games made available today when the Japanese version of the service went live had similar messages included before the actual download. '
Hmm... I wonder if this is actually just a standard message that they're adding to all Wiiware titles?

Being a 15 year old that's too tied up in school for a job, the news of additional costs doesn't sound good to me. Though I already know that MS charges for DLC enough, I don't think I'll see myself playing WiiWare games for awhile...
I need to see much more stuff on the whole project to see if it's worth saving money for; looking out for video reviews like ISOHaven said
Until then, I'll just be saving up money for a PS3 so I'll have PSWii :P
