Modchip - Wiikey 2 Anounced - Image 1The Wiikey team has released version 2 of their modchip. Changes look mostly related to performance, although there is now added support for "problem titles" such as Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

There's also a new 8 Mbit onboard flash, and diskspeed is now configurable via DVD. Dual Layer seems to be fully supported now as well. Here is the full spec list for WiiKey 2:
  • Compatible with DMS, D2A, D2B, D2C, D2C-2 and D2E chipsets
  • Compatible with all regions, USA, JAP, PAL and KOREA
  • Compatible with D2B "cut pin" drives (does not require the cut pins to be connected)
  • Fully configurable and updatable via DVD
  • Advanced automatic region detection with fallback (works even if a drive is changed to a different region Wii)
  • Region override for Wii and Gamecube games
  • Direct Boot of Wii original, import, and backup games
  • Direct Boot of Gamecube original, import, and backup games
  • Direct boot of homebrew in GC mode
  • Supports multi-disc games, DVD-R, +R, +RW (no bitsetting required)
  • Supports Dual Layer
  • Supports factory made 'silvers', even with incorrect header data
  • Supports, SMG, SSBB, Mario Kart and other 'problem' titles
  • Streaming audio-fix for Gamecube games
  • Diskspeed configurable via DVD, with separate settings for different media types
  • Recovery mode makes it impossible to brick the chip with a bad flash
  • 8Mbit onboard flash for storing data and applications
  • Rock solid performance with 3.3V FPGA core and high quality components
  • Multifrequency Ringpiece Oscillators (MRO) for optimum performance, even with problem drives
  • Onboard status LEDs

Interesting. I wonder if their firmware updates will be in sync with both chips or if they plan to abandon the old one.

I'll have to check out the install for both and see if it will be easy to upgrade.

Interesting. What problems? Any chance the problems are due to a bad install?

I've yet to have any problems with mine. But then again I haven't played ALL games. What games did you have problems with?

my 1st gen wiikey works 100% with every game i have tried... including SSBB japan and us, and mario kart wii...

the only thing i am waiting for is skate.it :D

my first gen wiikey seems to be working just fine as well.

My other wii running yaosm was having problems when SSBB came out. I have not used that setup since then. The wiikey plays everything I throw at it. Even cheap media. In fact, it plays games that my other D2Ckey cant even begin to try and read!
