It seems to be a day for Wii controller news, because an image has popped up on Nintendo Japan's website picturing a controller that features a layout resembling a GameCube controller for use with the Wii. The heading is 'Wii VC Remote,' meaning that the specialized device will be exclusively for Nintendo's Virtual Console feature.

Judging by the layout, the device looks like it will also be compliant with Nintendo GameCube games on the Wii. The only awkward part about using it for GameCube games is the placing of the main joystick below the D-Pad instead of above it, a design choice to support retro games better.

Hopefully more information about these VC controllers will be arriving soon. To ensure you are up to date on this an all other E3 news, check out this page periodically.

[Thanks for the email, Team Overlord!]

 » Wired?

why does it look like it's wired? other than that, I like the layout, Very SNES look (with a small addition of the Playstation's DualShock placement)

#2 I don't think it's wired. Look at the base just below the dual analogs. See how it's a different color white and juts out a little? I think that it's sitting in a stand/cradle and that 'wire' is a metal bar supporting it.

#3 I think the Dreamcast and the 360 are the best controllers. I only played 360 once but I think my hands fell asleep in the controller. REALLY nice feel to it. But that's all a copy of the Dreamcast design mixed with the Dual Shock. Personally, I don't like the Dual Shock controller that much.

I wish there was a bigger picture of this, but it looks pretty sleek. I wonder if this is that new cradle they were talking about or if it's a different self-contained unit entirely. Seems as if you could technically snap the pointer in the back of it and attach a USB cable into the bottom of the pointer or something. I don't know. Have to see more to find out.

 » Just a Guess

I think Maybe the thing on the bottom is either a metal bar or a wire that hooks up into the wiimote like the nun-chuck does........

But as for the best Controllers.....I really like the 360s.....but I also really like the GCN......but thats just me......

 » Hmm...

I thought we were able to play the retro games using the Wii-mote...playing old favorites usong the wand would be cool. Like having the FPS setup for Turok etc.. I hope its still optional.

Maybe theres a button add on for N64 for the VC controller.

They said you could play retro games but they didn't say you'd play them like Wii games. It'd be too hard and time consuming to make the old titles use Wii or they'd have crappy gimmicky controls.

#6, I didn't think about it till you said it, but that could be to connect the nunchuck. However, nunchuck is meant to be used for a one handed controller. This one looks like you have to use both hands.

» That looks like a Dual Shock Controller

Will this be an add-on or come with the Wii?

It kinda looks like it was design with the Dual shock in mind. Maybe they want to stick it to sony for taking their motion sensing thunder.

 » yeah...

i love it... brings back sweet memories of my old dear friend the Snes.... But yeah... i don't think the n64 would be to hard... it only had on dpad on thumbstick... i know theres C but the second thumbstick could easiy take the place of that... and the lil thing people think is a bar is wrong... if you look at the top of the controller u can see where the cord is coming out... and thus this is the hanging down cord... it also looks like there another set of buttons next to the regular L and R buttons atop the controller... But its a lil blurry so I don't know... Overall the controller design is beautiful... And who knows... this may not be the final design... so yeah... The Wii gets better by the day...

I think the extra buttons are Z1 and Z2 like on the nunchuk attachement...and i think this might be the controller shell for developers without any games for the wiimote

Very nice but wheres the Z button or am I overlooking something?

It looks like Nintendo desided that they better have a backup in case their new wiimote sucks too bad. lol

Nintendo keeps digging themselves into a hole. Look out PS3 and 360 the wii is out to get you. lol

N64 was taken out by PS1. GC was taken out by PS2 and Xbox. Wii will be taken out by.... never mind, when you suck that bad you can't be taken out. lol

 » Upsidedown my Arse

that would be like holding the ps2 controler upsidown

if the pic was upside down why can wee read it properly?

if you look closely you can see the a nub on the top off the controller thats the cord being wrapped under it.

btw: the dreamcast cord came out from underneath the controller

 » you're right, 19

Yeah, the DC does have the controller cord at the bottom. I totally forgot that for a minute. And I think #16 is right. Nintendo did promise a controller so that developers could ship regular games on it if they didn't want to use the Wii remote.

My name is TeamOverload not Team Overlord

Lol, anyways wow Ive been sumbitting a lot of news recently and posting at the forums...

This is like a SNES control type thing and it rocks

 » Super Smash Brothers

Nintendo showcased super smash brothers a little while ago and said it wouldnt use the wiimote so i think this is the controller it would use also i think 16 is right because nintendo said a while back that there would be a controller for developers that find the wiimote to intimadating

by (QJ. NET Staff) - 2006-05-10
 » i dont think...

that its for the VC because 1.N64 cant be used properley and 2.Sega Genesis cant be used properley so i think its the controller shell

   by Hanus35 - 2006-05-11
 » well actually...

Super Smash Bros will use the Gamecube controller... I totally forgot about the Wii's GameCube Controller ports... So yeah... SMBB should be sweet... And i strongly believe those are Z1 and Z2... I also forgot the NunChuk attachment had that... The Wii is gonna rock... I am also stoked about the Lightgun Attachment...

 » N64?

I agree with the others, I don't see how you can play 64 games with the controller. Obviously to make it more simple, they left out the 2 additional buttons to keep it from looking to complex/ugly. Maybe the right analog will turn into the 'C' buttons, just like the GameCube's controller.

» Nice But Wont Completely Work

You see that design wont completely work because some games like Mortal Kombat Requres 6 buttons as you see there is 4 buttons and to locate the other 2 buttons any where it might make it difficult to play games that need the 6 buttons
