Wii Light Gun

Nintendo has announced that a light gun attachment will be available for the forthcoming Wii.  I say attachment, because it is something of a receptacle for the Wii controller to slip into.  It has a pistol grip, trigger, and thumb stick for controls, as well as whatever the rest of the controller's functions are made available in the light gun mode.  Nintendo's working on a new version of the classic Duck Hunt from the original Nintendo Entertainment System, and the rumor is that the light gun attachment will come with the game.  A stand alone gun may also become available, but that is not yet apparent.

It's stuff like this that really gets me excited.  Being a product of the original NES, I love the new spin on old games.  I think Nintendo is really pulling out the stops and taking advantage of its under-dog status in the industry.  While I'm a long time XBOX fan, I easily see a Wii in my living room as soon as it's available - especially with a copy of the new Duck Hunt and a light gun!

AWSOME! Can't wait to use that in Red Steel!

not sure if it will work with red steel but i hope so. my only worry is that if it does work for red steel you will have to take the controller out of the gun for the sword fights.

 » wow...

I saw this on IGN about twenty minutes ago and I got hyped again. IGN made a mock-up of what they felt the controller would look like over a year ago and it's pretty much the same thing.

I don't think this would work on games like Red Steel where they want you to use the nunchuck controller to do things like open doors and stuff, but I could see this on games like Duck Hunt and--"Holy floating cans, Batman!"--HOGAN'S ALLEY!!!!!!!!!!

 » Ugly

Looks like something from an old episode of Buck Rogers or Dr. Who or something out of some other cheesy low-budget sci-fi flick. Looks very 70's/80's in terms of styling. Way too many flat surfaces. I guess they're going for a sleek retro appearance, but IMHO it just makes it look plain, generic, and dated before it's even released. Give a more pistol-like grip instead of a straight "stick" and it would already be a world of difference.

that would be nice but they are trying to make it semi compact and it would be hard to have a more pistol style grip if the wii-mote is going to fit into the grip. (i think it will go in like reloading a magazine on a pistol) i do agree though they could have made it a bit more stylish but i like it.

» Star Trekking accross the universe.....

Looks like something from Star Trek! Now, they just need to come out with a "revised" House Of The Dead game, but instead of shooting zombies coming out at you, you would shoot Uwe Boll clones!!! :) (hours of anger & fustration just melt away!)

I disagree that it's ugly and too flat.

Nintendo's aim is not to put a 9mm in the hand of every child but to provide a lightgun attachment. As long as it is comfortable for more than 30 minutes at a time it'll be fine.

I think it actually looks quite nice. I'm very much looking forward to the revised duckhunt (and hopefully the original, too.)

 » worried

my only worry about the wii is that they will make too much awesome stuff that it will cost a fortune to get it all. it is going to dominate the market. i have been a loyal nintendo buyer but the gcn made me think about switching systems, just too many good games on the others that didnt make it to the cube but after this i am a bigger fan of nintendo than ever.

3dken, you're on to something there. It WOULD be awesome to shoot ppl you know, but it would be MORE awesome if you could edit the faces of the enemies on your own! O_o
