Nintendo Wii Homebrew: SNES Emulator, info and download - Image 1Homebrew developers Askot and dsbomb has released a new version of SNES9X v1.43 for the Nintendo Wii. If you aren't familiar with the program, it's an emulator that allows the Wii to play SNES roms.

Askot also recently released a NES Emulator for the Wii. Being from the same author, some of the changes between the two programs are the same.

Here's the changelog for SNES9X v1.43 0.0.9:

Version 0.0.9 - 20080325
  • Added SDCARD slot selection for searching roms, meaning, you can search rom files from SDCARD SLOT A or SLOT B (Beta, meaning, buggy, but works).
  • For standarization, you must create folders root:/snes9x/roms to read SNES roms files from SDCARD.
  • Added combo L+R+X+Y to call menu.
Requirements for the program:
  • SoftMod and/or HardMod (to boot the dol)
  • Zipped or not (.smc & .fig) ROMS
The program is still in its beta stage, and the download does not include a readme, so be sure to know what you're doing before using the program.

» It loads on the front sd

Confirmed. Gamecube pads work. The GUI is great. Can't seem to get my roms to work. I choose "load from sd" and it says couldn't find dev0/fceu/roms..I'm guessing you make a folder called fceu and make a rom folder within that to put your roms..I'll have to test it out. But thanks askot and dsbomb!

the folder didn't work. But if you want to know how to install it:
I copied everything to the root of my sd card and renamed the snesgx.wii.elf to boot.elf and it loaded. But now I have no idea on how to run my roms. Please help

 » Suggestion

Try making the folder root:[slash]snes9x[slash]roms and storing the roms there. Sorry for using the brackets. Apparently our comments page does not support the slash symbol. Hopefully we can get that fixed in the future.

 » Didn't work..

I've tried everything from dev/fceu/roms to root/snes9x/roms to snes9x/roms and it's not working :( I wish they would include readmes.

Are you trying to load from the front SD Card slot? Unfortunately, the program currently doesn't load from there. For now, the program needs an SD Gecko, a card adapter for the Wii.

 » that's why

I was about to throw my wii lol thanks ^^ I'll try burning them and see if they work that way.

 » I wonder...

I've often wondered if that would work on an unchipped wii. be sure to report back :D

 » i know

you have to create snes9x/roms folders on the root of the sd card

» I asked the guys in wii dev about the front sd loading problem,.

They say the wii lib for front sd loading isnt quite finished yet, and for that reason isnt fant enough to play/load roms from the front sd at the moment.

however "svpe, a coder working on the sd lib for the wii says his front sd lib is almost finished.

so soon we sould be seeing emu's that load roms from front sd.

 » softmod?

The requirements state you need a hard or softmod. What do they mean with softmod? Is that the twilight hack? Can anyone give me a link to a tutorial page or some sorts to do the softmod hack? Thanks in advance.

 » It's the twilight hack

wiibrew . org

 » cool

All right homebrew! Why pay $5-$10 for roms that can be downloaded for free? Only losers like isohaven do that. This emulator is even better than the Nintendo one.

   Re: xLinkinwormx - 2008-03-31
 » no

not everyone will use this just because its free, its not about ripping on the company, people will still buy from nintendo. i for one will only use this for some games like plok
