Wii OperaWell, the trial version, at the very least. The article title alone says it all, and just to reiterate, you'd be able to surf the internet from your Wii in just a matter of days (December 22) with the free trial version of the Wii's Opera Web browser. Downloading the browser will activate the Internet Channel on the menu and off you go surfing.

As for the final version, it's going to be available at the end of March and will be free for all Wii users to download through the end of June. After June, it'll be available for download in the Wii Shop Channel for 500 Wii Points.

This new Internet Channel will allow you to surf the web with, not a mouse, but your Wiimote. It'll work pretty much the same way as a mouse pointer.

On a side note and as another update, the Wii Forecast Channel will be up and running, not on the 20th, but a day earlier (today, December 19)! The said channel, provided by Weathernews, will allow you to check out some weather info anywhere in the world using a 3D globe. If it's going to be this easy to check for weather updates now, this'll probably give those weather men a run for their money...

Notch in your calendars, guys! The Wii Channels are growing steadily and soon enough our menus would be fully decked with more services from Nintendo.

Wooh! Today and in 3 days 2 channels on my Wii!

 » Great Channels

The Forecast Channel is pretty cool, they send you a message if you have your WiiConnect24 on and so your cosole lights up. LOL they sent mines around 3 a.m. I neglected to actually check it until I woke up. Then it was a simple as clicking the update link in the message. The channel is decent for what it does, just wish it had more locations to choose from. Can't wait for the Internet Channel! If you think about it though, it's a day later in Japan by now so the dates they had originally still ring through, it's just seems like a day earlier for America!

 » free trial?

so that deffinitly makes it seem like even early adopters will have to pay in the spring. darn, I was hoping for a little texaas hold'em action where it'd be free for us.

frankly I'm not sure how much I'll use it. I guess it depends on the interface and surfing speed

 » well

 » Hilarious

It's hilarious how all you Wiitards get worked up over a feature that was SUPPOSED TO BE AVAILABLE AT LAUNCH! It's good to see that you all still swallow every piece of ***** Kidtendo shoves down your throats. Have fun playing Mario Galaxy, Metroid, and Smash Bros. in 2008, when they're released.

It's the comment like these that make my day. I guess it makes you feel more manly cause you throw out hateful words at a group of people who enjoy a product. Yea no doubt it was dissapointing it wasn't there from the start, even I was thinking about that. But the point is that it's released. And everyone console isn't perfect and promise many things they don't deliver on right away or ever. For whichever console you do own, I'm sure you don't mind "every piece of ***** they shove down your throat" As for me I'll buy, play, and take whaeva ***** I want from every company I purchase a console from.

 » Short story

There was a troll once. It didn't live under a bridge or in a cave or in the usual places that you would expect. It lived in the hearts of men. Sad pathetic little men. And one day when that little man discovered the internet, the troll came out to play.

Moral of the story?
If you don't like the Wii go hang out in your section of choice and leave the 'Wiitards' alone.
(Who comes up with these childish terms anyway?)

 » opera browser

so the opera browser will be available for free download till June... does that include usuage too? so we have to pay next year to access internet or what?

Re: The Mallrat (Unregistered) - 2006-12-19
 » It's free

As long as you download the browser before the end of June, you won't pay a thing. If you wait until after June, the download costs the 500 points. You don't pay any other costs.

I don't get why so many people can't understand this.

Re: Someone who can read and research (Unregistered) - 2006-12-20
 » opera browser

The Opera browser is a "Free" donwload as of 20th Dec. It will be in "beta" format until March '07 at which point the final version will be downloadable until June '07 for "Free". After June '07 the browser will have to be paid for - ONLY IF YOU HAVE NOT DOWNLOADED IT PREVIOUS TO THIS DATE -

As for usage charge! If your Wii connects through your normal internet connection, either wireless or wired, then you continue to pay charges to your Service provider and not Nintendo.

Remember - You're using your current ISP, why would you pay to use the same access and bandwidth to someone else that just provides a 'window' to this service. It's a bit like a Glazing company placing a glass window between you and your television then charging you to watch your TV through the glass. It just isn't going to happen. It's that simple!

 » Just a guess

The internet channel will be free for a while because it allows those who bought the wii early to have a free gift. So it's sort of a marketing campaign to get people to buy the wii early. Total guess of course. ;-)

 » Ich bin impressed

If you stand just to the side of the television you can impress your friends by acting like one of those fancy network anchor men. I'm Ron Burgundy?

Not interesting. I am fine with PC. My Wii is for video games only. Thank you very much, Nintendo but not thanks. BYE!
