The Wii Component Video Cable lets you connect your Wii to a high-definition TV (HDTV) or to an enhanced-definition TV (EDTV) so you can enjoy 480p (progressive or non-interlaced video output) instead of the usual 480i (interlaced display) screen resolution. |

I know now whats the different between "p" & "i"
Most larger TV's support HD these days. If you have a smaller TV most likely it won't support the resolution (ect. 480p,760p,1080p)and if it does, it would be too small to notice anything.
So if I say have a 26 or so inch TV theres no real difference?
even if your tv doesn't support progressive scan, you will still benefit from higher picture quality by using component cables.
Whether or not your television supports progressive scan, component cables deliver a higher quality image. At the bottom of the quality heap as far as how a console connects to a TV is composite (well, let's forget RF modulated video for now). Then comes s-video, supported by most consoles (but not the Wii). Then comes component. (DVI/HDMI follows as the highest quality for digital televisions.) I did a side by side comparison of video quality on my Dreamcast using composite versus s-video, and the latter was visibly superior, offering brighter colors and sharper rendering on my interlaced (progressive not supported) TV. Component is superior to s-video and would offer an even greater increase in color fidelity, sharpness, etc.
So use component whenever possible even if your TV does not support progressive scan. It's worth the $30.
Just remember, if you don't have an EDTV or HDTV, to disable 480p output. :)
