Homebrew - Backup Launcher 0.3 beta - Image 1Wiibrew developer WiiGator has released a new version of Backup Launcher, a combination of GeckoOS and a backup ISO Launcher.

This is a major update too. The program now has faster load time, and now supports non-patched as well as patched (or decrypted) games.

The initial release of this program made some waves in the Wiibrew community in more ways than one. Remember that Nuke made it clear that he had nothing to do with this program, though his code was used for it, so don't ask him for support.

Right now the program is still in its beta version, so not all games are supported. Here's the changelog from WiiGator:
  • Cinematic now working properly
  • Wi-Fi Enabled
  • Faster Load time
  • Drive speed is still 3x. It is so fast that some testers believed it is running at 6x.
  • Supports non-patched and patched Wii games (The correct term for "patched" is "decrypted")
  • Not all games will work, but as of now most do.
Note that WiiGator advises against updating official firmware from Nintendo, as this might render the Backup Launcher unusable. Please go through the download's readme, or follow the source link for more information on this.

Thanks to jackfack for sending in the tip!

» Great news but 1 Question.

Can I use this to play back-ups of my gamecube games.

 » .....

No, GC backups are not supported at the moment. Follow the link and a lot of questions will be answered.

I already tired this with several games and DAMN, this is really an improvement. All games are running much faster and all worked without any noticeable bugs. This version is just great. IMO this reached the level of a serious alternative to a modchip.

P.S: For anybody who wants to try this out:
1:1 copies are actually working better than patched Backup.

AND REMEMBER: only use backups of games you own!

 » Yeeeepp

Soon we won't need modchips.
In time maybe waninkoko can implement a backup loader into his Custom IOS so that we can run backups straight from the wii menu. :)

 » Wow!

Wow... this is great news. It makes me want to try my Zelda game to use the exploit to get the homebrew channel. >.> I'll do it someday after the homebrew scene becomes huge like the PSP.

 » you might wanna...

...buy a spare wii and not upgrade it then.

the latest 3.3v2 update blocks a LOT of things.

kinda like how the psp updates stopped the luminies and gta exploits so you hadda wait til a pandora came :P

   Re: DarkXCloud - 2008-10-28
 » I'm okay

I have the version thats required for Zelda exploit.

It's like 3.0 I think? or 2.X something. I never updated since that new update came out. A news letter they gave me about not letting run modified save datas and I was like #$^# no!!!. So... I'm okay ^___^

 » Way better...

...than waninkoko's backup loader

Waninkoko's is slow and shows in black and white while this one is in color and is faster

   Re: DarkXCloud - 2008-10-28
 » agreed

+ it does not get updated anymore :P waninkok's beta sucked anyways.

   Re: DigiTalDeaD - 2008-10-28
 » Well...

Waninkoko's version was leaked before release remember, if given more time his could have been as good as if not better than this one.

 » HELP!!!

i burned mario galaxy on a imation dvd+r book type dvd-rom and it didn't work do i have to install cios? because every time i try to install it doesn't work.when it's downloading 2 of 15 it says error only downloaded 64 of 33608

 » Great job.

This work great!! I got it installed along with the new cios with no problem. Got littlest pet shop for my daughter and it runs great. I can't even tell that I'm playing backups anymore because the load times are next to nil.

Only question, is there any way to install this as a channel like the previous version? I like to keep my save games and homebrew on separate SD cards and I hate having to switch them out to play games.
