Seeing the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 already have access to the boob tube via IPTV, the Wii isn't one to be outdone by its rival consoles. However, it isn't an official service supported by Nintendo.

A crafty developer has managed to get IPTV up and running on his Wii console with the hopes that it will get some attention from the big "N" and get some actual support for the service.

Developer Vui Huang Tea made use of his expertise working for "ANT Galio and ESPIAL EVO IPTV middleware systems running on dedicated / stand-alone / single-function Set-Top Boxes (STB) such as Amino, Motorola, Kraetel".

He was able to create an IPTV portal accessible through the Wii Internet Browser, as well as throw in a couple of nifty features tied in with the Wiimote. If you still can't believe it, you can take a look at the video of the IPTV service jury rigged into the developer's console below.

You'll be pleasantly surprised how he was able to make use of the Wiimote's intuitive controls by being able to switch program listings with the literal flick of the wrist. In any case, enjoy the video!
